i'm disrespectful to dirt
i talked to someone at racing beat a while ago about this and iirc the spark from a trailing plug burns cooler but not enough to affect engine temps or anything. and he said there really aren't any benefits from running all trailing unless it's on a ported motor. i may have misunderstood so don't quote me or anything. i've been using all trailing on my car for a while just to try it out and it seems a little harder to start especially when its cold.
as for your other problem... try changing the hoses in that area first because it's cheap and easy to do.

But too cold of a plug will result in cool engine drivability problems. Too warm of a plug would result in burning plugs up faster.
