Engine start up question

I have an 88' TII and it has spark, compression, and fuel. The thing is...it wont start. Do I have to have the intercooler on when I try to start it so it gets a reading through the maf? The engine is a Jspec and I have had it started for about 30 seconds then it shut off. It still has its compression. I thought with the three essential things that it would fire up and also since it started for a short time I thought the timing would be on. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

Yes, you need the intercooler in place or a substitute like a run of PVC piping to sub for the intercooler.
