Trouble starting
okay yes, im a complete newbie here
and yes, perhaps i could have found some answers using the search feature
but to be honest when i did that, i got such a massive amount of results that i figured just posting this would be a bit easier
besides, i know you pros live for the chance to show how much u know :P
anywho, i just picked up an older FC, an 88 (non turbo)
foolishly, i didnt do all that much reasarch... so ofcourse i flooded it a few times. after playing w/ the kill switch a bit, i managed to get past that bump
now the problem im having is starting the car
i had to get it boosted TWICE today, and both times it only ran for a short time.
basically, when it was idling... the rpms would just drop, and the engine would putter out. from 750 to 500... then shake... then 0 rpms.
it wasnt the battery at first, as it was cranking it just fine (but now im pretty sure the battery is kaput, since after all that it wont even crank it anymore)
ive been told to replace the alternator, since i prolly killed it w/ all that cranking...?
anyways, just lookin for a hand up from the pros. this has been a very trying day...

just try and suck it out of our minds... hahahaha
Make sure the battery is connected properly + to + and - to - that kinda thing
and yes the battery and alt may be hit.... more than likely its just one of them prolly the alternator.
you should do a search for 60k tune up too

im having the same problem with my 88 turbo but im able to start it up after a try or two. i think what the problem might be is the fuel injectors. i replaced the alternator but that did not help....let me know if that solves the problem.

yeah i thought it was the injectors too, which would explain it dying out @ idle right?
i'll give it another shot tomorrow, but if it starts at all, its after a nasty amount of cranking
a friend of mine has a similar rex, hes offered me the parts i need. i figure swap the battery ,alternator, injectors, spark plugs.
not sure if its the ideal plan or what...?

Im having similar problems too. It seems like there is too much fuel going into the motor and it just cranks, not start. Gonna do some more research on leaky injectors and see if thats the case.

theres a LOT of similar threads being created lately... yet no solid resolutions in any of em
maybe there should be a huge sticky at the top addressing all these similar issues

i had something like that when i first got mine the cause vacuum leak to the pressure sensor result tore up the starter alternator and battery replaced those and everything was good but there are lots of different causes most common in my limited experience seem to be undetected vacuum leaks, mass air flow meter problems, leaky fuel injectors and impropper grounds
