Does it grind only after you change the gear oil? Either way redline stuff would make you tranny shift way smoother. Just wondering would stiffer mounts make the tranny shift smoother?

I just bought this transmission and installed it, so I have no previous knowledge of it grinding before i got it. does anyone know of a place that sells rebuild kits for our transmissions? because I have this extra one that I tore out and was wanting to rebuild it...

I'm pretty sure there isn't one. Talk to Wayne, he's in the process of tearing down a tranny and cataloging the parts needed for a rebuild.

IF someone wanted to learn the trade, they could make a nice chunk of change specializing in rebuilding the rx-7 transmissions. I don't know of anyone except the high end shops that do trans rebuilds on these. Local trans shops generally aren't to be trusted, in my experience.

if i drained the transmission, and filled it with redline MT90. do you guys think it would make a big enough difference or would i be wasting my time, and money. right now it has 1/4 redline (the guy that had it before me filled it and i guess most of it leaked out through shipping), and 3/4 coastal synthetic 75w90...

Heh, probably not the best of ideas to mix them ;(. You should drain it and put 100% RP or Redline in it..
Maybe its wearing out?

Go to autozone and get pennzoil syncromesh fluid. Drain and try that, I've had excellent luck with this stuff fixing scratchy syncros. You'll need to give it 300 miles or so to start working. It's not that expensive and worth a shot.

Syncros are going, or have gone south. I don't believe any additive will cure the problem. It's like putting brake pads on after you tear up a rotor. Nothing going to help the rotor.

just try a good brand fluid first. Either way you look at it, wasting your time trying new fluid is better than not doing it and finding out that you tossed a good tranny because you didnt want to follow propers steps to diagnose.

Then again, it all depends how bad it is now. It may be blown out completely.
