tow start, really?

I heard that if the ATF does not work then I should try and tow start the car. Okay, when I do this do I still have to inject ATF into the leading spark plug holes or what? First off when I cranked the motor with the plugs out. there was a hella lot of white smoke. Should I keep cranking untill all that smoke disappears?

You can try to push start the car. Towing is not advised as the car could suddenly start and ram into the tow vehicle.

Put an ounce of ATF into each leading plug hole before you try this.

Aaron - I ended up HAVING to tow mine to get it started.. . I'd imagine it was pretty funny watching me, my dad and a friend try and get the 7 up to speed to push-start it, first we just gave up and used my van... just be careful, like aaron said, to not hit the tow car

Or you could just get another vehicle and push the car up to a good speed, let it coast, and pop the clutch.

Push starting is a whole lot safer, just cushion the area where the tow vehicles are touching at, I used my buddy's F-150 and some old couch cushions. It worked pretty good, no damage.

I tow started mine using a might7 94 previa, and I did it at night with a looooong rope so that hitting the tow car wouldnt be a problem. You dont need to be going TOO fast anyway as long as you do it in second. If you really want to get crazy, try push starting it in reverse... I think the reduction gearing is even higher in first (just the direction is reversed), so you'll get more engine RPM.

Push or pull starting has ALWAYS worked for me starting a flooded car. I've never put a drop of atf in my engine, that stuff is should be used as a LAST resort IMHO.

I've never used ATF OR tow starting. I've had to roll start it a few times, and it was pretty damn easy. I didn't just "roll and pop the clutch" though. Instead, I cranked on the starter for a seecond to get the revs up and some fluids flowing before I eased the clutch. I was rolling down through a lot and didn't want the car to not start, but slow down too much that I didn't have another chance, cause stopping with no power assist can be a bitch.
