Top trans bolt
Top trans bolt
You know the 'guide bolt', the one threaded from the engine side. First of all, mine does not have a nut on the back. And as ya'll know, it's sorta hard to get to. Now, do I need to remove it to drop the trans? Or should I be able to pull the trans out with it still in. Looking at the trans going in, that hole is not threaded on the tranny. This and a jack are the only things holding the transmission in at this point. Thanks.

The nut is not necessary for operation.... I always put one on, but I've seen plenty of drag cars survive just fine without them.
You do not need to remove that bolt to remove/install the transmission. Its actually quite helpful for installation in aligning the bellhousing.

That NUT,that you find Hard to get to..I find if you use a 14mm closed end ratchet wrench,With a Hinged side,it is fairly easy to get to from the Top Passenger side.If you approach it from That side it is A bit Easier. You just have to push some wires aside...Oh when you put your Transmission Back in,Make sure that Nothing gets PINCHED in that area..I put my transmission back in place only to notice that there was a WIRE in that area...Good luck, and it's Good to see you are getting to know your car.

Alright, so I guess I'll just work the tranny out tomorrow. Sorta ran outta time tonight.
And you got to get to know your car unless you want to spend money paying someone else to do it, which I don't.

It also helps if you can jack up the front of the motor to tilt the tranny to get it out easier. Leave the tranny in gear so when you go to put it back togther, you can put the drive shaft in to turn the input shaft so it will line up with the clutch. Hope this helps.
well its not really bad advice. i was just saying because when i pulled my tranny i forgot about the slave cylinder and it took me 20 mins to figure out what was holding it in..but taking it off the tranny is better advice.. but bleeding the clutch isnt that big of a deal....but yea DO NOT TOUCH THE CLUTCH PEDDLE WITH THE TRANNY OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
