Time to play name that wire

Yellow wire, red stripped.

Coming off of the starter sub harness. i can't find anyplace to plug it into. Does it plug onto the tranny or the back of the engine itself?

HELP!

Thanks

nope.
5th gear reverse switch has a connector which reaches to almost hte back fo the tranny near hte drive shaft... this wire will not extend past the bell housing.

also 5th / reverse subharness has 4 wires. two red ones secured by push connectors, and two wires, one red one black with plastic connectors.

Yellow/Red is oil pressure sensor. Either the sensor or the condenser that it goes to. The condenser is connected to the bell housing at the clutch slave cylinder, I think. The condenser is black and has a single wire that is connected to it. That wire connects to the yellow/red wire that is spliced in with the oil pressure sensors wire.

The "what's the yellow and red wire by the starter?" question comes up quite often

i thought the oil pressure sensor is the single black wire with what it looks like an IC chip connected to it... so i plug the yellow wire with red strip into the IC chip somehow?

my car's electrical gremlins are starting to surface... this is worrying me...

No, the yellow/red wire goes to the oil pressure sender.

for some reason i couldn't find any mention of it in the FSM.

also for the 5th/reverse switch plugs...

on the tranny, there are two red wires with push type connectors (something i woudl use in a stereo isntall)

on the harness coming from the engine bay there are the coresponding two wires one is red one is black... 12V and ground i woudl assume. However which way to go plug into the tranny? i've tried numerous different ways and they all seem to make the thing work.

There is also two additional plugs both are green wire from the tranny. The ones from the engine bay are both black i think.

I have also tried numerous different ways of hooking it up. It appears that it doens't matter what way i hook it up, it will still work? WTF?

every since my clutch install i have gotten weird symptons

First when i finished up my clutch i went for a test drive, the car after 15 kms driving started to hesitate really bad whenever there was load... ie 3rd and slow speed and i give it gas.

after a while the car would not go... i would stop at stop light and then put it into first and get going and it owuld stall. it flooded... i used my fuel cut off switch and started the car again.

i reved to 4000 rpm and slipped the clutch like mad to try to get off the road... it stalled again.
Eventually i managed to get it off the road. Upon doing so i looked at my stock water temp gauge, it appears my headlights were affecting it.

When the pop ups are up and on, the temp gauge would peg, when they are down and only parking lights are on the temp gauge would be at middle.

When the lights are off the temp gauge would be at low.

This is while the car was shut off and keys in my pocket.

Eventually i just made my pop ups go up and down 20+ times and this has not happened since.

Next thing i notice whenever i start my engine it would start and go to 3000 rpm like normal... then the engine revs would drop slowly and the car would die all of the sudden.

IF i start it up agian no problem/

My car never had a problem.

WTF did i do wrong? i didn't even thouch any of the electricals... i only changed the damn clutch.

sounds like you have the neutral safety wires and the reverse switch wires mixed up, maybe?

how do i tell which one is correct? FSM doesn't say what wire colors are what.

also what is the black wire that is bolted to the top of the transmission's bell housing suppose to be grounded to? there is a white plug that is single pin female. What does it plug to? the wire is just long enough to reach the throttle body.

Icemark, help... i'm desperate

next quetsion... so the yellow wire with red strip connects to the IC chip with a ring connector that is attached to teh slave cylinder am i correct in this?

so out of the sub harness where the 2 wires are for the starter, a ground wire and also a black wire with white connector and a yellow wire with red strip.

if i plug the IC chip to the yellow and red wire, what does the other black wire with white connector plug up to?

i also ahve an un accounted wire, the gorund that connects tot he top of the bell housing. Now logic would say that hte black wire from the harness would connect to the black wire from the bell housing.. but their connectors do not match hup.

There should be a spade located just inboard of the wiper motor for the black ground wire from the transmission. The spade has no wire to it. It just sticks out at you. Its bolted down.

The Yeller wire with a red stripe.....on a series four, the terminal on the end of the wire slides on the button on the end of the oil pressure sender. Look at the terminal on the wire, then look a the oil pressure sender. Does it look like the wires terminal will slide on the end of the oil pressure sender?? Should.

Tell you what I'll do tomorrow. I'll go out to the car and look at the condenser that attaches to the clutch slave cylinder and see just how it ties into the yellow/red wire. I have to admit I don't remember if the spliced wire is yellow/red or black. Although that question may get asked a lot around here.....I don't remember.

The drivers side rear end of the motor. Its a little mushroom thing screwed into the motor. Ignore the "..." I had to use them to fill in spaces.

thanks for all that helped out.

finally found the oil pressure sender unit on the back of the driver side engine, below the oil filter.

Never realized that nipple of was point of connection. the Yellow wire with red strip slides in horizontally with the nipple... before knowing all of this i thought hte connector was broken too... now I realized the purpose.

everything is hooked back up... added a lot of extra 8 gauge grounds... going for test drive now...

THANK YOU EVERYONE... i owe all of the people who helped a beer.

brb
