Thoughts on this ebay 7?

Im looking for something fast, good handling, and looks descent without spending too much....like everyone. Im thinking that buying an already built fc, 240 or fd would be cheaper and easier than paying for parts, etc. If found a couple, but this one seems to be the best so far. I thought I would post to get everyones opinions...

The FMIC is crooked.

To me it seems like this is one really freaking modded car and the price being that low probably reflects that it has problems.

The **** is a S4 too....seems kind of odd.

WA Looks good...

Hi, I am not an expert on FC's but the fact that the guy posted so many pictures and details about the car gives you some confidence. The car has lots of mods and if they were done by a known shop would be awesome but done by him and his trusted mechanic may be something bad since there is no way to know how good mechanics those guys are.
But all considered, it still looks like a pretty decent car. Remember that it doesnt pass emissions in case you have to do that in your state.

The low price could just mean that the guy is REALLY realistic when it comes to selling his car.
The paint job isn't smooth on the roof so you don't know how good a job the rest of the car is.
I don't buy modded cars because you never really know what you are getting but it could be a good deal if all is kosher.

Good luck with it if you do get it.

Dont buy a modded car. Unless the workmanship is evident.

It doesn't look that neat a job, And what is with all them dials and Computer.

I would like buy a nice standard car and take pleasure in working on it myself.

For the money that RX7 go for in the USA I would import one from Japan, there a car reflex on the person so they take extra care of there cars. Plus they dont drive anywhere so very very low mileage.

Just the fact that there is so much rust in the engine bay worries me. It looks like the car was stored outside with no hood for awhile. It's really not a clean setup either.

and the salvaged title.........it has alot of rust on the rotors and the bay area.
Really bad wiring job.......spaghetti mess!
I would probably guess the Earl Scheib paint job was done to cover some rust and dents.......

For the money buy a stock fc the hasn't been molested and do the mods you want.

Trust me, although i like the mods that were done to my car before i bought it, they were all done wrong and crappy so i had to go through and redo everything.

Its not worth the headache IMHO.

Maybe I'm overly picky, but if you're going to the trouble of taking off the taillights & rear spoiler for your paint job, why wouldn't you also take off the antenna and the sunroof weatherstrip? This kind of semi-half-assed approach would cause me to worry about the workmanship that you can't see.

Im not noticing the rust but I do wonder why the body shop didnt take out the antenna....

Anyway, I talked to the guy and he said to come take a look for myself or have a friend go look at it. So if anyone lives out in SD, and wouldnt mind taking a ride in a 7, I would love an outside opinion.

He said the computer was to tune the microtech and also to datalog the wideband. he has it stored in a garage now. I also asked about the title, he said that it was a salvage in tx where he bought it, but they issued a clear sd title. He didnt know for sure what that meant but wanted me to be aware of the issue. Seems like a good guy, I wish I could see it in person.

You still won't convince everyone here that its worth it.
If you want a fast car that bad but don't want to have to work on it then just find a stock turbo S5 for that money and get happy. To have a nice modded car you HAVE to do alot of work. Otherwise you get what you are showing us with alot of corners cut, alot of covering up, and in the end an unhappy buyer, which you will be.

Talk to your insurance company before touching any salvage title.
"Clear" doesn't mean jack **** in this and age of CarFax.
CarFax is going to show "TX SALVAGE" on it no matter how the seller wants to reword this.

This is a very good example of how the seller thinks the sum of spending on parts = total cost of a build car.
Too bad it doesn't work too well in reality.
It's currently got ZERO bids on it - granted, it's still going for another 5+ days.
Yes, there are a lot of choice parts on it.
The seller doesn't mention what brand turbo exhaust manifold is in there - I assume it's a piece of **** Made-In-China crap.
One pic shows the paint on the roof with a lot of orange peel - cheap *** paint job?
Cheap *** paint job also can be hiding a lot of body work and previous accident damage.

The seller jusifies his opening bid cost by quoting Blue Book "excellent" on a Turbo II.
First, this isn't a Turbo II.
Second, this car does not qualify as "excellent" - salvage title automatic chop off HALF in my book.
It's a fricken' base model - manual crank mirrors.
There's no mention it's using a Turbo II drivetrain - it only mentions a rear end swap.
Warning - it could be running a non-turbo drivetrain under there.
Hell, the seller doesn't even mention it's running a *turbo transmission*.
So assume, the transmission is non-turbo!

With all those parts, does the seller have all the receipts?
The rebuild on the engine is suspect - if it was build by a reputable shop, he SHOULD have the receipts for it.

All that showy car audio + computer stuff...don't get mesmerized with it.
If something goes wrong, you need to troubleshoot that, and it's going to be a nightmare.
I don't see anything really expensive in terms of components, so I would rather yank all that **** out and tell the seller to take off $2k off the asking price.

Last, with all that **** why does he has the GROSS STOCK STEERING WHEEL???
I would think even a cheapie aftermarket steering wheel has got to look better than he original steering wheel!

Tell the guy you give him $2k cash and tell him to yank all that electronics crap from inside the car...
Yeah, he'll laugh at you, but it car isn't worth $6k+ in my book.

The owner posts in here...

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=680951

Funny how he advertises this as a "TII", but the VIN clearly shows it's a non-turbo...

Be afraid...be very afraid...

I think that says it all.
