Thniking about gettin a T2(help please!)

Well, I am thinkin about gettin a T2, I don't know a whole lot about Rx-7's, but I did have a 1984 Rx-7 GSL, that i LOVED, but well... thats another story...

These are all the mods the guy listed on the car when he posted it:

http://media.canadatrader.com/canada...00/1/02001.jpg
"1988 MAZDA RX-7, turbo II (intercooled), pw, cruise, tilt, Pioneer CD, HKS turbo timer, high flow air intake kit, body kit with nose conversion, recent paint, car can be viewed in Edmonton, 196,000 km, $6,000 obo(CDN). "

Here's what I need to know...
The one I'm lookin at has 196k on it, no rebuild, so it's gonna need a rebuild... but I got an engine outta my other Rx-7, that was just rebuilt about last year... so I was wandering if it was possible to put the 1st gen's engine into the 2nd gen T2, with all the turbo's workin fine? Same with tranny, will the first gen's tranny work in the 2nd's? If they won't work, how much will a rebuild be?

There is also a chance that the engine has been rebuilt, I still need to phone up the guy, I haven't been able to get ahold of him, so if it has, would it be a good ivestment?

Is a T2 actually worth it? Or should i just get a different 2nd gen Rx-7 that's had the engine rebuilt... or even a 1st gen?

I know it's kinda hard to tell without actually seeing the car and service records, but both cars are like 5 hours away from me, so I don't want to drive up there and find out it was a total waste of time... and I want to go up there knowing what to look for.

Hmmmmm.....how much is that in US Dollars? If I were selling mine (I'm not), I would ask $4000.00 US Dollars. My car has beautiful new paint, a NEW engine 50,000 miles ago, new springs/shocks/clutch/engine gaskets/interior carpet, poly bushings and trans. mounts/tune-up/brake pads/clutch hydraulics/ lots of other stuff I can't remember. For the car to be worth $4000.00 US, I think it should be in EXCELLENT condition and need pretty much nothing. For reference...I paid $2000.00 for my car with none of that stuff above (except the NEW Mazda engine which was running like crap at the time). I paid more than I should have but that's what they go for here. So....unless it's near perfect, don't pay too much for it.

The engine HASN'T been rebuilt... so does anyone know if my 1st gen engine would fit in fine with the turbo kits and not be losing too much speed/torque? Or how much would a rebuild cost for the Turbo II?

PS - If anyone lives in Calgary, Alberta, and has been to Rotary Specialists lately, have you seen any Turbo II's there??

Don't be to concerned with price as they are harder to find in some places as you'd be paying $5000+ US for turbo FC down here, the best thing you can do is start by just physically looking at what people are selling (take some one with you).

1st gen is a 1.2 (12a) 2nd gen is a 1.3 (13b), even if it were possible to swap it wouldn't be worth it

I found out it will be $4200 CDN for the engine rebuild, and if I can get the car for $4500 CDN and put $4200 into a rebuild is it worth it?

That sound like a lot for a rebuild, you may want to find how much for a brand new engine (ruf $5000 {AUS}+ labour down here).

Have you seen the car or had it inspected?

First off, mileage isn't a guarantee of needing a rebuild - a bad motor means it needs a rebuild.

Right now you're just guessing until you see the car. If it runs well and is worth the money, get it. If not, don't.

Are you in Canada? If you are trying to bring that car back to the US you might run into problems as I did. Just something to think about.

Yes, I am in Canada...

Also, I am looking to use the car for a few years as a daily driver, so I think the engine will need to last...
