Gettin a car
I found an rx7 for 600. The owner says that the engine overheats and that it "most likely needs a new engine." I was reading that these cars have problems with cooling, and was wondering if it might be this. And if not, do you think its still worth gettin the car, even if i have to rebuild the engine.
I could probably get the price down to 500, and i want the car so i can learn from it, and fix it. Anything thats helpful would be appreciated, THanks

RX7s don't have any more troubles with cooling than any other 15 year old vehicle.
But overheating a rotary is pretty much a death warrent to the engine, (as it is on any aluminum blocked engine). If the car has been over heated it will need now or soon a rebuild or replacement.
Rebuilt non turbos run typically around $1500 (give or take $500-depending on who does the rebuild and what part of the country you are in). Installation of course would be extra.
Turbo motors can be replaced with Jspec motors which have reasonable miles on them (30k miles to 60k miles is typical), for around $1000 again + labor to install it. A rebuilt Turbo motor also runs around the same price as the non turbo rebuilt motor.
Over heating also generally indicates a failure in the cooling system or exhaust, or fuel injection. You may need additional work in one or all of these areas, as well as a replacement motor.
If you are not willing to do the work yourself, you would want a good Rotary mechanic in your area. Generally most Mazda dealers are a very poor choice, as not to many mechanics at Mazda dealers know the rotary engine, and the RX7 in general anymore.
