Thinking about going vert...it's competitors?
So my coupe is kinda losing its appeal, kinda wanna go drop top and the FC vert is definitely something to think of. But in that category (and price range...to an extent) are also a lot of other awesome cars as well, namely:
Mazda Miata (Lightweight, good stuff, but not as appealing as the FC, S2000 or Boxster IMO)
Honda S2000 (Awesome...everything! Except for insurance perhaps...)
Porsche Boxster (Slow, but AWESOME brakes, and Porsche pimp factor)
So what do you think? Opinions? It'd be nice to stay FC but looking at the facts, I don't know if the vert can compare favorably with the above mentioned cars.

This is an rx-7 forum, so what do you expect, most people will suggest the fc. If your fastback is loosing its appeal, what makes you think an fc vert wont do the same? I personally don't like convertibles...how much money do you have to spend? If you have the money, buy the S2000. It has the redline and handling characteristics of a seven. You also didnt mention what you wanted...is it just looks or do you also want performance and handling?

With mods, the FC and Miata should have an equal footing with the S2000 (stock already has a high performance potential), although the Boxster will really only be the most expensive to modify (and probably not worth it). I don't know about you, but personally (and I'm sure a lot of people will agree) that having a convertible just adds so much more to the driving experience - So yes, I think an FC vert will be funner to drive than a coupe. I have personally driven all of the above cars, I was just asking for other people's suggestion.
I guess the MR2 Spyder kinda fits up into that category too...though I haven't driven one.

I'd take an S2000 or a Boxster over your typical beat up 'vert.
I'd take a mint FCvertible over either though. Consider doing a proper Turbo swap if you have the money.

The boxer is to expensive for what it is. Plus parts will be more expensive to replace.
You really can't go wrong with an S2k, it really is a fantastic car.
Miata's have alot of potential and pretty much dominate autocross everywhere (it's main competition is the S2K though)
A vert in solid condition is hard to find out here, but if you can find one, parts are cheap.

your price range there is all over the place. and the S2000 and Boxster are leaps ahead of the 2 decade old RX-7 convertible, so get those if you can actually afford them.
or do what i would like to do. drop a rotary into a Miata...

think of why your coupe is loosing its appeal.. if it is because it is slow then a vert will be even slower (in most cases) the vert is fun to drive but by far the heaviest of the FC's.. take it from me I own a vert and a coupe.. the vert is fun but the coupe is the faster car and prolly will be unless I do a T2 swap in the vert

I would say for the money you can buy a clean vert for around 5g, do a t2 swap, buy some decent wheels and a new paint job with a bigger turbo, front mount and all of that and you are still miles away in price from an s2k or a boxter, and would whoop them silly. Or you can save your money, get a miata for cheap, get tired of it and leave it on the side once the whole ordeal is out of your system.

I think you have to do some serious upgrades to keep up with S2000's, Miatas, and Boxters in the corners ... I'll take the Miata and S2000 over the FC vert any day.
