Thermovavle connection

The tube closest to the firewall, where does it connent to? All I can find in the FSM shows it cut off and connecting to nothing?

Underneath it are two metal nipples, one straight and the other bent @ 90 degrees. Is it one of those?

I am sure that a vac tube goes straight to each.
Is there a vac line with a small green check valve under the TB?..connected to anything?

It is connected up front, above the tps.

Ya,I am sure one comes off that plastic white valve at the back and slides under the TB to something near the TPS.I remember that..
As I said though,remind me,I gotta work on the darn car tomorrow and it is all stock.
'88 actually too.
So it won't be hard to tell ya where it goes.

It goes to the secondary throttle plate dashpot. When cold, it supplies vacuum to hold the plates shut. When warm, it closed and allows the plates to open. Do you still have the dashpot?

Vacuum from manifold goes to the outside port. Inside port goes under the TB w/check valve to dashpot.

Yep, still have dashpot. This is what I was looking for: Vacuum from manifold goes to the outside port.


The little elbow (90 degree bend) line I'm guessing is coolant?

^ Yes, coolant runs to it (if you're talking about the aluminum 90 deg. bend).

Careful with terminology...the dashpot prevents the primary throttle plate from closing too fast and is purely mechanical (diaphram with small hole for air to exit slowly) and not directly part of the system we're talking about.

The thermovalve controls vaccum based on temperature as said, and works through a delay valve...but note it closes the SECONDARY TB PLATES on the air filter side (the ones not connected to the throttle).
