testing wastegate?

Is there any way to see if the wategate actuator is working? I was having some boosting issues late last year and I want to see if its the problem. The arm seems to be rather difficult to move, and if I suck on the vacuum line to it as hard as I can it won't actuate it, same if I blow.. am I just not strong enough or what??

nooo wayy man u wont move it like that
u need a vacuum pump and connect it to the hose that goes into the actuator, (there is a spec at what Hg it should move but I dont know what it is anymore)
pump the vacuum pump and the rod will move
if not the wastegate is stuck or the actuator spring is too strong (corrosion)

how much boost were u running at?
how did u come to the conclusion its the wastegate?
what was it doing?

It even takes some effort to move the actuator rod with your hand. Give it a try sometime.

Shouldn't it open under positive pressure? Why all this talk about vacuum?

Yes it should have positive pressure. Why would the wg be fully open when not in boost. It would take forever to build boost. The wg needs pressure to open up the flapper and relieve excess pressure.

That's kind of what i was wondering. As the person above mentioned hooking it up to vacuum. Take and pump some low pressure air into it (5psi to open?)

You need around 5psi or so to open it. I think your mouth is capable of like, 1 or 2?

I blew into mine last week when I got it back from the turbo rebuilder.

While blowing into it I also pushed in the rod and it moved barely. It's a bitch to try.

The turvo guys just took a Air compressor end and blew into it to see if it sucked the rod in.
