T2 or settle for N/A?
I would love a T2 but they are damn hard to find....
but on the other hand it seems N/A's are every where.... just pick one.
SO should I settle for an N/A?
and keep it as a daily driver then move up to the mighty FD?

N/A: I have one. It is still fast enough to run with Trans Ams (after full exhaust, upgraded clutch, substantial weight reduction). LOts of people get bored with theirs. No torque, but if you hone your driving technique, it is really not a problem. Max hp you can expect for the street....200hp at the wheels w/o N20.
TII: 200 hp (if the engine is good), shorter life span (engines go about 120K miles), must use 91+ octane, but the grin factor of hearing "whoosh" between shifts is a MAJOR plus.
What do you want to do? Autocross? N/A is fine. Drag race? Gotta go TII. Have a damn quick street car? N/A is cool. Wanna kill Vipers one day? Gotta go TII.

I have both, 86 NA and 87TII. Two completely different cars. The NA is "torquey" below 2500 RPM and has little up top. The TII is a dog under 2500, but GOOD GOD it pulls ferociously to 7K, still pulling but I shift. Rico described it well, it's all up to whatever you want from the car. Since I've gotten my TII, I HATE driving my NA, to me it's just not as fun as the TII. I only paid $150 for my NA(impulse buy ), so I don't feel bad about that at all, but I would feel like **** if I had spent a lot of money instead of waiting it out and getting the TII.

IF you have never owned a turbo car before, I would reccomend a N/A. Turbo cars are very unforgiving, and rotaries are much worse about that. However, if you use your brain when modifying (ie, get a FCD and more fuel delivery BEFORE you bolt on that bigger turbo or turn up the boost) then I say go for the TII. I was very happy with my n/a, but my plans were to drop in a TII drivetrain next summer. Also, a full TII swap will cost about $3k, so don't just think, "Oh, I can get an N/A and slap on a turbo." Yes. It "can" be done. No, I would not do myself (sorry Bambam and Aaron!!).

Oh! it's like that huh?
I am more than pleased with the performance of my NA. But most people like to have "kill me" horsepower. And the NA just isn't up to the task.
And coupes are for ugly people, who can't show thier faces!
Ha! Take that Mr. Rico! hehehe

I am not going to bring up any reasons to get an NA or a T2 except one:
You stated you really want a T2 so get what you want the first time. Don't settle, get what you really want.

See but here is my "situation"
I can save money and drop another motor in my 91 Mirage which has a new clutch, clutch system, cv joints, and an ecu. ...................OR...................
I can save a little more and buy an N/A for a daily driver then start my plan for a FD.

I ahd a 90' GXL and I liked it but it just wasn't fast enough so when it came time to get a new car I bought my current car a 91' TII. Now the TII is hella faster but with the GXL I didn't have to be messing with stuff or have to worry about blowing it from a boost spike. Plus the GXL would run great on 89 octane and would get 16 miles to the gallon my TII if I am lucky gets 9 (city driving) But I knew the TII was going to be more work before I bought it.

Samps has cooties.
Remember this: No matter waht you get, you are getting a fast, light, well balanced car, with great road manners and plenty of power w/ or w/o turbo. Have fun, and stay away from Samps.

I have both, an 87GXL and 87TII. I got the GXL first and kept it stock. Ran great...lot's of fun runnin' up and down from Big Bear Mountain.
The TII is hella faster!!! Cost more to keep it running good though... and a lot more items to get (i.e., boost control, timer, bov, etc...).
Either way, both can hang on the road. good luck

Get a TII..... that way you wont kick yourself in the butt when your driving your N/A and a TII pulls up next to you and leaves you in his dust! Just make sure you do a complete inspection on the car before you buy it though. Don't settle on the N/A.... I'm telling you.... it'll be worth the wait!!
