Anyone else think this is a bargain?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=120438717026

My car is stock apart from exhaust, would i need fuel mods etc to see any real benefit from this turbo?

I wouldn't be afraid of it. I bought a used worn-out turbo on eGay that had a T-04s cold side. I rebuilt my s5 turbo using the compressor wheel and housing from the eGay turbo. What kind of h.p. goals do you have? are you using the stock TMIC? the t-04 has pretty good potential when using anything other than the stock TMIC. If you're looking for more than probably 275-300 whp then you'd want to ditch this one for a header/ big turbo. As for any change in turbos or increase in boost, you need to match the fuel requirements to the higher boost, or you'll pop your engine. Do some searching/ educating on the forum first before you spend hard-earned money on a turbo. There is a lot to learn about boost creep, wastegate porting, intercooler choices etc. Lots of good info in the FAQ section.

^Wow thats a good idea. How much did you port the wastegate? Imperssions? How did you like the turbo (since they've been known to be crap)?

If your stock turbo is still functioning properly, then I think this turbo will be a waste of money for you. 1st of all, there is no guarantee this turbo is in perfect operating condition, but the seller seems to be pretty sure. 2nd, there is no mention of any wastegate porting done to this unit. The stock turbo has boost creep issues once you free up the exhuast like you've done. If this hybrid still has a stock hotside & wastegate (which it seems to based on the description) it will basically "crap in its pants" even faster than a stock turbo. I would message the seller and ask if the wastegate has been ported, and for pictures of it if he says yes. 3rd, the stock turbo will easily outperform the stock fuel injectors, intercooler, and probably fuel pump too. It makes more since to get those things done first, otherwise you will have a turbo that sits in your garage for four years like mine did

If you want to go faster without spending much, here is what I'd do:

1) Buy a boost gauge
2) Buy a FCD
3) Rewire the stock fuel pump, or better yet install a Walbro 255 pump
4) Port your stock turbo wastegate as big as you can, or pay a shop to if you're uncomfortable doing it/ don't have access to a welder to install a new wastegate flapper
5) **optional** Buy some 680 or 720cc secondary injectors

Having an aftermarket exhaust, you probably are experiencing boost creep. Buy an accurate boost guage before anything else. Once you confirm boost rising over 8psi, pick up a fuel cut defencer (FCD) so you don't blow up your engine. You could alternatively buy an Rtek ECU instead of an FCD, but this won't be as cheap. Replace (or at least rewire) the fuel pump, as the stock unit strains easily. The stock top mount intercooler supposedly turns into a frying pan over 12psi. My guess is that you will have boost creeping up over 12psi in 4th gear for sure, probably 3rd also unless you port the turbo wastegate. Injectors are your call. I ran my 87 TII with an 80mm exhaust, FCD, walbro pump, wastegate ported to 26mm, and stock 550's for almost 3 years with no problems. I boosted about 10.5psi in the first three gears, and boost creep up to 12psi in 4th gear around 6000rpm. Many people would say that is risky on stock 550's, but my car seemed to like it

This turbo you are looking at will require everything I listed. The wastegate would need to be ported really big since it pushes more air on the cold side than the stock unit. Since there would be no point in flowing the extra air unless you want more boost, a new intercooler is a must, and so are secondary injectors. You could "fire hose" with some 680 or 720cc secondaries on a stock ECU with FCD, or would need to step up to the Rtek ECU which can operate 720 primaries and secondaries.

My whole point of this lengthy post is to help you make the right purchase. Maybe you feel the turbo "is a good value", but for the current price, you nearly can buy a boost gauge, FCD, walbro pump, and port the wastegate. If you buy the turbo instead, you will still need to buy all these things anyways. Do you see where I'm going here. . . . ? Hope this helps.
