Smile Supercharge.. or turbo..

Hey,

I'm about to get a series4 and im not sure if i should get a turbo, or buy an N/A and supercharge it..

I have about AU$15k to spend on the rx, what are your ideas for each setup?
I'm hanging more to the s/c side mainly because its a bit different, and can create a nice package all up. But then again you have the turbo which is more of an exciting ride

Thanks, Besok

Right now turbocharging for rotaries isn't very widespread and is rather expensive unless you get a junkyard supercharger off of another car.
I say just buy a Turbo II unless you're set on a supercharged RX

I have looked into boosting my NA. The TurboII has a completely different (stronger) driveline. It is much easier to start with a TII.

thats kinda like asking "should i buy this 6cyl mustang and drop a 4.6/5.0 or whatever in it, or should i just go and buy the 4.6/5.0 model?"...... go for the turbo, why go and do extra work that the manufacturer has done for you already?

My fantasy setup would be an RX-8 engine & tranny in my 91 (250hp no boost).

These are always interesting conversations.

My first thought would be, how much money will this cost? In your case it looks like you're set on the money issue so you could do either. Getting either an N/A or TII in good condition will run you about the same price (the TII being a little more).

An average supercharger kit is generally about $3000-$4000 USD, which considerably cuts into your budget. Next you have to ask, will you be modify other parts of the car? That is then even more money and time modifying the air intake fuel delivery, exhaust to make sure you aren't going to start running too lean.

The TII has already been equipped to handle the boost from forced air induction leaving you more money and time to add say a bigger turbo and or intercooler and do preventative maintenance to insure she will have a long life.

In the end it comes down to what you want to do. If you are set on the supercharger go for it. Either way you won't be disappointed, you are going to have an awesome machine.

Ya I agree with everyone here. Only S/C a 7 that is an NA that you already have & want to make faster. When you have the choice I would get a TII first off. I mean to make any real power you will prolly need to change the drivetrain to a TII one anyways. Alot of work and money & time & effort, and oh ya-money!

And oh ya, my dream car will be done in about 5 years. Just need to get out of college and start making some real money. It will be my current NA, but will get a 20B with a good sized single turbo & FMIC & all the extras & a body kit. Can't wait. Will run around the $15,000-20,000 range but will be one of the fastest cars on the road and definitely the best looking

how hard is it to find and get yourself a S/C ?

if it is that bad, just get a straight out TII.
