Sunroof Link

Can someone please explain how to install this part. It's the link to the sunroof. Do I need to remove the track or even the wire in the track? Looks like this peice just hooks up to a piece next to the one that is connected to the wire. Also would I need to take out the interior trim and headliner to do this job?

You may have to get creative with this one.
The manual describes removing the headliner & pulling the whole assembly.
You may be able to get to it by just removing the cap.

Here is your chance to take some pictures & do a write-up.

How did you get it out? That part comes out by sliding it ALL the way out of the track that it rides in. The cable end slides into that piece (it's the tilt mechanism) so the cable will have to be slid all the way out in order to reinstall the tilt mech. Not sure if that can be done with the assembly still in the car.

The piece in the picture is the new piece. I haven't taken the old piece out yet. So I do have to take off the whole sunroof mechanism? Can you please tell me how. How it held in place?

One clarification. This is not he piece that hold the cable. It came with another piece that holds the cable, seems to fit together.

You have to pull the headliner and then pull the whole sunroof out and then it is accesable. Trust me I have tried every way that there is and this is the only way that works.

Can you please explain a little more about taking the sunroof assembly out? Diagrams if possible. I have taken the headliner out before so I am some what familiar with the inside. What exact bolts will I be taking off? The whole assembly will have to be removed or can I access it enoough with the headliner out?

Right - The piece in your picture fits into the piece that's attached to the end of the cable. (They fit into each other side-by-side.) As the cable begins to move backward to open the roof, the movement of the piece attached to the cable causes the new piece you have to tilt upward by some clever interior design. Only then can the roof move backward to open. BTW - There's a right-hand and a left-hand piece. They're not interchangeable side to side.

There's a free download of the fsm available. It shows how to remove the outfit. Pictures also.
