Live wire for Power Antenna?

The PO swapped out the factory head with some cheap piece. I'm curious about what color/whereabouts the power wire for the antenna might be, as I need to raise and lower it. I was going to throw a toggle switch on there. Thanks.

Rick

can't remember the color code of the wire off hand but it isn't a power wire that controls the antenna it is a ground circuit. the relay for the power antenna is in the motor itself and uses a ground control circuit from the stock radio to trip the relay and run the motor.

check the online serive manual in the FAQ and you will see the wire i was referring to, if you really want to rig it up with a switch it would be simple as all you need to do is connect one end to a ground and the other to the wire to the antenna.

Most newer units send 12 volts to the antenna to raise/lower it. The RX7 raises/lowers the antenna by grounding the motor. So it's backwards to the rest of the systems. The usual fix is to use the 12 volt antenna send from the new unit to operate a relay ($5 at Radio Shack) and then the relay grounds the wire from the antenna. It's very easy to do.

I don't know if this will help, but pictured is the plug for an s5 vert that the stock antenna plugged into. The blue and red wires come from the aftermarket electric antenna. I ended up swapping the blue and red wires to get it to work right.

Okay, I've got one green wire for "Power Antenna" coming out the back of my head unit. I have 2 spare connectors that I don't know what they're for sitting in there now. One looks like the one pictured above. How do I tell which one is for the antenna? S4 GXL too btw.

iirc the black wire with blue tracer in the pic above is the antenna up signal wire. wire up a relay to your head unit so that it provides a ground circuit to this wire and this should cure your dilemma.
