sun roof

Hey folks, Just one more thing. My sun roof is @#$* screwd. I'm thinking of getting it repaired verses replacing it with an after market install. Has anyone have any input as to who sells an aftermarket product for this? Looking for suggestions....

Only aftermarket thing related to the sunroof I've seen was a few guys on here selling tinted glass to go on top instead of the metal... not selling actual assemblies and such. I think it was made of lexan... try searching in the 2nd gen section for "lexan sunroof" see what that pulls up.

What in particular are you wanting from an aftermarket company?

before you assume its screwd try working it back and forth while squirting some wd40 on the tracks. if you have to use the manual crank (the hand book explaines how). i did this a while back and its bought me some time until i can get around to taking it appart and cleaning it out right.

Anyone know if there are any handbooks online. Looking through my FSM and not seeing anything about a handcrank yet.

I also have a broken sunroof. I've looked around on the web for a solution. The closest thing I found was a couple of deals on ebay for complete systems (motor, mounts, track, the whole shibang.) I think those were around $50 last I checked. Another thing I was thinking of doing is just measuring it and seeing if I can find a replacement pop up style roof. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to fab some mounts and make it look nice.

If you look up at the roof and then directly to the back about I dunno 1' you will see a 'bolt'. That's the crank. If you don't have the tool, then you should be able to find an Allen wrench of the same size I believe to open/close it.

Also, mine was catching on something in the track...just make sure yours is clear and put a nice lub of sorts in there and just keep working it back and forth. That seems to help mine a little until I find a replacement. You may have to give a little shimmy w/ your hand to get it opened and closed though if it's a jacked as mine!!

I'ts not the tracks that need greasing or bad. The motor seems fine. The sunroof os closing and opening at an angle. Not flush The motor seems to move it but I'm thinking it may be a cable broken. I was trying to see if some one has found an after market solution to replace it. It seems who ever designed it, did not do a good job of thinking ot through. Let me know....

If they are cleaned & greased every year or so, they do OK. If not they wear out in 10 years.

If it's a borken gear tape, I'd look for a used replacement to clean & lube & swap in.
