Suffocating in My RX
I'm getting hedaches from huffing gas in my RX-7. My friend told me that the smog pump isn't hooked up and that is causing my RX to run rich and smell like gas. He told me that for my 2nd gen the aftermarket ram-air is a big problem. (Probably mostly because the previous owner didn't hook it up correctly.)
I'm looking for a stock air intake if anybody has one they'd like to throw my way.
If anybody can help me out with identifying these mystery electrical plugs (yellow and green) over by the intake, I would appreciate it.

Your smelling gas either because your pulsation dampener is leaky or your injectors are leaky (outside the intake) or because your charcoal canister isnt there or is leaky.
I dont get what your trying to say about "ram air"
Green plugs are diagnostic plugs... they dont go into anything. Not sure about the yellow one your talking about.

I think he is referring to his exhaust when he mentions "it smells like gas". My 7 is running rich also, and you can definitely get a strong fuel heavy exhaust smell in the cabin. I have an aftermarket intake as well, but I suspect the injectors to be the problem, I will soon find out as I am going to have them cleaned.
BTW, I asked a similar "running rich" question a while back, and aaroncake advised I get everything in a good state of tune first, filters, plugs, wires, TPS, coolant temp sensor, then work from there. Hope that helps, good luck.

Check the PD, its on the primary fuel rail on the end of it, you should be able to see it without taking anything off, see if you can pop off the mushroom shaped case and if a screw is out of the whole its on its way out and change that sucker by taking off the intake upper and middle manifolds.

As others have said, check the pulsation damper if you smell gas under the hood. It's a common story to hear that a leaking pulsation damper (gas smell) leads to car catching fire, leads to whole car being destroyed. Don't join those ranks!
If you're "suffocating" while driving the car due to exhaust fumes, etc. you should consider replacing the bushings and seals on your shifter (assuming you have a manual). On my car, there was a decent exhaust smell in the cabin (and the shifter was loose as well). I got the "kit" of shifter bushings and got them installed and the smell in the cabin went away.
Of course you should also check your exhaust system for exhaust leaks! If it's a sizable leak, you can usually locate it by sound.
No matter how bad the stuff coming out your exhaust pipe smells, that shouldn't really be noticable while you're driving if the rest of your car is in proper working order.

You still have cats? That will make your car stink like rotten eggs and bring tears to your eyes.
Lean out your car w/ a S-AFC, don't over premix, or get a cat. These could all be solutions
And I think you guys are forgetting how much Rotarys stink.
But if you do smell straight up gas, then yes be very alarmed and get your car fixed before driving it around as you don't want an engine fire.

I've actually found that when I open my sunroof, I tend to get something like a draft, and some of the exhaust gases enter my car. When I open up my windows, voila, the smell disipates, as it gets pulled out through the windows, and completes the cycle. And when everything is buttoned up, not a bit of exhaust.
