Stupid Question

My 87 NA doesn't seem to have a spot to connect the overflow coolant bottle to the cooling system. I've looked on the radiator and up near the filler cap and there isn't anywhere to connect it. I have to be missing something, right?

That's weird, It's supposed to be right underneath where the rad cap is- about 1/4 inch below it.
Maybe the plastic nipple broke off. Take a closer look.

You never had an overflow bottle on the car???

Someboy put the wrong radiator or thermostat housing in your car. There are several different cooling setups on FCs.

There used to be a dude on AOL years ago whose SN was RX7coolantMAN

I got the car cheap because the low coolant buzzer wouldn't shut off. It didn't take long to figure out that the sensor was messed up, I replaced it and went snooping around only to find the hose disconnected. It does look like the radiator and other parts near the front of the engine compartment have been replaced. Maybe they did put something mismatched on the car. There isn't a place to connect it below the filler cap. The Haynes guide showed it there so I checked that spot first. Looks like I need to find a new filler cap assembly.

Thanks

on the 87 there should be a cap on the engine, not on the rad. and it connects up by the engine under the cap. if you have a cap on the rad. then they put a 89+ rad in, but you should still have the cap on the engine as well...

I don't think this is a 87 engine but I circled the area that the hose should connect from the overflow bottle on a 87 ... Or at least that is where it connects to on my 87

I'll take a look and see if I missed the connection where you circled in the picture. I did notice 86 RX-7 N/A written on the radiator in marker. It looks like someone picked it up in a junkyard. Considering the car is an 87 could that be the problem. I noticed on the MazdaTrix website that the 87 filler cap didn't have a connection for the overflow but the 86 did.

Thanks for the help.

The 86 car I saw had a 3rd cap on the front of the car that was just for the overflow tube. It was weird.

87's I think have the overflow tube on the thermostat housing, and a soild rad with no cap.

88 cars have a pressure cap on the rad with the overflow tube, and a filler cap on the thermostat housing. Look and see if there is a number on the radiator anywhere like N326 or N318
