Strange hesistation problem (Non-3800rpm related)

Last weekend, I started my car, and put it into reverse to back out of my driveway. The car would sputter when it hit 2000rpm, and decelerated accordingly. After a few minutes, the problem fixed itself and I have not had another problem until this weekend.

Today, I was driving, and I shifted into 1st gear fine. I go to shift into 2nd, and it acts like I had just lef off the gas, but I still had my foot into the pedal. I had to blip the throttle several times, downshift, or pop the clutch a couple of times, trying anything to get it to gas again. Most of the time it would, and burn through the whole tach. On the way home, it did this on and off. Even in neutral it does this. It seems to be random.

Like I said, in neutral it sometimes does this. In gear, it acts like I just shift into the next gear, and let up off the gas, even though my foot is planted in it.

There is no backfiring, idle is excellent. Doesn't seem to be dependent on gear, upshift, downshift, neutral. or position of gas pedal.

Any idea what this could be? Thanks in advance.

I don't think the sensor is bad.

Anyone? Surely someone knows how these cars work. I read the forums all the time, and see much more complex problems solved every day

I'm kinda new to the rotary thing but it actually sounds like a fuel filter problem. Have you tried ckecking that recently?

You know what, I haven't. It's going to be a PITA to get to it, though. Gotta access it through the hatch. ehh. But, it's worth replacing; Can't hurt, right?
