Backfiring and loss of power

Hello everyone, I am having a strange problem with my 87 fc and am not sure what to do. My car is almost constantly backfiring with a massive loss in power, I feel like it is running too rich but I am not sure what to do. When it first happened I was driving and hit about 8k rpm and then the constant backfiring and loss of power happened. I have changed spark plugs and the wires have been changed with the past year. The engine has less than 2000 miles on it and was recently tuned with a microtech ecu in it. Let me know what you think the problem might be.

Have you checked you compression ??? You may have had a apex seal fail. This will cause both a misfire and loss of power.

Backfiring and loss of power

^this. Doesn't matter how many miles are on a rebuild, 8k is a bit much unless its been balanced

Lightbulb Tps

Hey man, had a very similar problem. My TPS sensor was slightly unplugged after doing some work.

Power dies.

Ridiculous backfiring almost in steps if that makes sense throughout the rev range.

And a rubbish idle.

Check its fully plugged in man and if so, look up TPS stuff on here maybe
My two cents worth.

That's if you still have a factory TPS with your AM ecu.

a microtech driven engine won't give those symptoms, as stated check compression before spending time on anything else.

I would start simple and replace all of your vacuum lines, you could have one or many causing this issue. Leaks are fairly easy to find on An FC, if that doesnt work out then I'd check TPS signal with multimeter. I had a friend have the same issues turns out there was 3 vacuum leaks causing his car to backfire and run like garbage.
