Stock shocks ride Quality ?

How is it ? I have AR+ right now but Im going back to stock, cuz its too jumpy for my taste, and I have a FE with HKS HiperMax III for my AutoX needs.

I never experienced how "comfy" the stock shocks are, cuz when I got my car the stock shocks are long dead and the bracket has rust and about to break.

So can someone tell me how the stock shock/springs ride quality are ? is it comfy ? not like Lexus kind of comfy, but NYC have the most PoS roads ever so every single bit helps.

and it seems that AAS was only an option for the S4 but not S5 ? is that true? but when I was looking at the parts page it mention AAS ? wtf ?

If its not an option for S5 (it should not be), is it possible to fit the S4's AAS to S5's body ? I forgot if the connectors are there ...

As I purchased the S5 TII new, I still have the OE shocks/springs on the car. Speaking of the Turbo suspension, it is stiff, but when the OE 205 GY tires were on the car it offered a decent ride, but now that I have 215/55 and 235/50 tires on the car, the ride has suffered as the tires just don't absorb the impacts. The standard shocks/springs on the N/A offer a great ride as a friend of mine had purchased one new and I had been in it numerous times, but that one is long gone.

Problem with stock units is that the price of each is out of sight, probably around $150 a corner $600 total, and if you need springs add another $500.

i'm on the stock suspension, 74k miles. i actually really like it.

hard to describe, its not soft, but it does take bumps very well.

the AAS doesnt do much, the difference between "normal" and "sport" is pretty subtle, and most of the time normal actually handles better, its better over bumps.

for like an auto-x sport would be better.

thx for the input guys.

Cuz like I said the shocks are pretty beat up when I got the car, forget about the springs it has rust all over.

I just checked MMS it seems that I can get everything (including the mounts and nuts and bolts) EXCEPT for the rear shocks and springs, it said its on back order. but damn it might be NLA

This sucks. any good aftermarket shocks thats about the same as the stockers ?

i think the normal KYB's are really close to the stockers, if not the same thing except painted silver

tokico blue would be good too, i think these are slightly stiffer.

i'm trying to remember if the O.G. shock combo was tokico blue front/kyb rear or the other way around

I will try to place the order and see what happens. MMS will let me know in a day or 2 (rather if the rear shocks & springs are no longer in production)

Yea, well, will see what happens at Mazda. Cuz sometimes they will be able to locate some parts from some outside source, like from Canada and Japan.

Mazda is going to charge you an arm, leg and torso for stock parts. Just go with some good KYB or Tokico's.

My car is on stock shocks at 77k and they take bumps really good. Before this I was daily driving an Integra with 12k front and 10k rear coilovers though

Here is my advice if you are looking to improve the ride on harsh pavement: Get some Eibach prokit springs, then use Tokico Blue shocks. The spring rate is progressive. I added a set to my 90 vert. It really takes the edge off road impacts. The combination makes the car ride better, take impacts better, overall the car feels much more sophisticated and modern. In normal driving, the car feels very buttoned down. I have a buddy that makes his living in the Porsche 928 scene. He drove my car across town last weekend and was very complementary of the ride, drive and handling.

They are probably not the absolute best for 'racing'. In spirited driving, I can tell the difference between the top 'softer' spring rate and the lower 'stiff' spring rate. I have gotten used to the effect and for 8/10's street driving it is just fine. Tracking or auto-x might be a different story. I truly think that a shock with adjustable damping might be just the ticket on these springs, so I have a set of Illuminata's coming along soon to try out.

Good Luck

I can Get parts much cheaper than retail thru MMS.

After all the delivery charge its still a bit cheaper than buying aftermarket.

I placed the order already, still waiting Mazda to see if they still have the rear shocks and rear springs, its out of stock now, sometimes they can locate them at different country's warehouse. I got shipments from Canada, Mexico, and one time they actually shipped them from Japan.

but just like most FC parts, once they're out it will be NLA (no longer Available)

I will try your setup if the rear shocks are NLA.

thx
