This project has kind of ballooned quite a bit from what I had first expected to do. I was first just planning on doing the basic things, similar to what RTEK does -- fuel, ignition, transition, and leave it at that. But, as I've gone on and stumbled across the routines in the ECU i've added in new functions for those as well, such as: idle speed control, air/water temp timing correction, cranking fuel maps, secondary injection fuel differential, afm removal, etc. It's taken me a lot longer to get where I wanted to be, but the result is a lot more control over everything.
i was poking around the volvo forums, as an 850 wagon would be neat, and they have completely cracked the ecu, and since its an OEM ecu, like the FC, there are a TON of features that are really nice.

the volvo is newer, but you can do all the air/fuel/timing changes, PLUS all the stuff that the CEL routine looks for, you can turn on and off, or change the parameters, etc etc etc

so basically the other features are the ones that make it really nice to have, although its like 7x the work... http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic...uning-for-m44/

A lot of that can be done with the RX7 ECU, it's just a lot more "simple" in the manner it checks things for the CEL.

Boards should be in this week -- then I can get these mailed out and get some testing under way.

While we are waiting on the boards, any more progress on the software front?

I've been fairly busy with work, but most of this weekend will be dedicated to getting the major software items finished up (the most important being the firmware updating, so you guys won't have to send me your EPROM's constantly for new firmware). I believe the boards are waiting for me at home -- so this should be a good day!

Yep! Boards are now in -- I was worried that there was a problem with them, as some of the drillings are a slight bit tighter than they should have been, but they should end up working out in the end just fine. I just need to finish some of the ROM work so that these things can be reliably updated in the field so you won't have to send them back to me for an update and then I can mail them out to everyone. I'll get some pictures up soon.

Most of this is way over my head, but I have a lot of parts from three parts cars as well as my own car which is currently without engine

I really, REALLY appreciate what you are doing for the community at no charge, and I would be happy to donate parts to your cause, let me know what you could use and I will let you know if I have any extra I could part with!

I think I've got the upgrade process worked out the way I want -- meaning, that it should be pretty much failsafe. I'm adding that support into the management software. After I do a few tests with that, I should be able to get these boards out to everyone. It's been coming along, just rather slowly as this is one of the most important parts.

When you get to S5 I believe I have an engine harness from an 89 GXL if that would be of use, it was cut in one spot leading under the intake, but I think I still have the whole thing, I also have a vert ecu, and maybe a GXL ecu, thought I had a TII but apparently I managed to sell that, I probably have a lot of sensors and what not, not sure what you would need

Yeah, this has been taking so long because it's one of the most vital aspects of the whole thing. If firmware updates don't work, it means every single change has to be done by flashing the EPROM with a programmer -- not exactly ideal for a community effort project like this. As a result, I've been extremely picky in making sure I get this right.

EPROM upgrading seems to be done and working fine now, so I should be able to get some of these sent out for real-world testing and development by the end of the week.

I'll need a S5 ECU here shortly, but I want to get the basic things on the S4 ECU done first.
