still no spark
still no spark
My 1988 rx7 convertible still as no spark. I talked to my mechanic in Neosho and he is still trying things but may change out the wireing harness.
1. the cas checks out
2. the ecu is good
3. the coils have 12volts
4. the grounds where checked
I do have a question what is a afm and could it cause you to not have spark? The car was running and it just died and wouldn't start. Some one please help !!!!!!!

You can't be helped unless you have a digital meter and can use it somewhat. Remove the boost sensors elec plug. Find the brown wire with a white stripe BR/W. key to ON. The Br/W wire should have approx 5vdc. If you have 1-2vdc.....tough. ECU's failed or isn't getting power from the EGI fuses.
Or if it is just 1-2 vdc, pull the afm elec plug off anc check again. IF it rises to 5vdc on the brown/white wire, then the afm is dragging the ref voltage down.
By the way, if that is the case, then leave the afm's elec plug off and start the car. It should START but not stay running. The ECU does not use the AFM for fuel during the START procedure.

ground problems
I started checking grounds and when I cleaned the ecu ground under the intake it fired twice but then quit again. please tell me what is the afm and where is it located on the vehicle.
afm=Air flow meter. It is between the air filter and the throttle body. On our cars its the vane type so where the intake changes to a metal object and has like a triangle kinda thing sticking out yup thats it. The coils are grounded at there mounts. you may want to try remove the coils and cleaning the ground there.
