Steering Rack Question

Well today I took of the power steering belt on my FC and took it out to see how difficult it would be to drive it like that. It wasn't as hard as I thought. But I got to wondering if anyone knew if there was a difference between the gear ratio of steering rack of FCs that came w/ PS and the FCs that came W/o PS? And does it make a big difference on how hard it is to drive?

Manual racks have an extra .5 turn I believe. PS racks are 2.5 lock to lock and manual are 3 lock to lock. So not much of a difference. Plus with your belt off, once you get most of the fluid out of the rack it becomes even easier.

The manual rack has a ratio of 20.3 to 1, while the power racks had 15.2 to or 17.2 to 1 (GTUs) ratios.

Turn to lock was 3.6 for the manual rack and the power racks were 2.7 turns to lock.

regardless of type, the turning diameter was 32.2 ft

However, IMO the ps rack with no ps assist is fine.

if your power steering works fine then just leave it till it does go IMO. Cause it isn're really that heavy and is handy when turning arround in those narrow street here in canada! lol

Ive never seen any evidence or heard of anyones rack that they took ps off failing.

Undo all the lines, turn the wheel lock to lock like 5 or 6 times. Then plug all the holes in the rack with new bolts. Then pull out the ps fluid cooling line.

Ok today I got the pump and pulleys out. Now I have the power steering beeping thingy. How do I turn it off, is there a fuse in the fuse box by my foot that is for the PS.

Also is there a way I can evacuate my AC myself or should I have a shop do it.
