starter help
i just replaced a transmission and my car wont start now. i cant remember how the wires went on the starter and the shift up light just stays on now. this never happened b4. could someone tell me where the wires go, theres a black and yellow wire which i think is the ground and and one that has a black rubber on it. i have tried both ways but i think my batter is low and nothing is really happening. so its charging right now.
thanks

B/Y - main ground (-). Connect to starter bolt / trans bell housing.
B - 12V from battery (+). Connect to the open post on the starter solenoid.
B/W - starter signal wire. Small gauge wire w/ black clip. Attach to starter solenoid.
Charge your battery, then give it a try again. The shift up light is controlled by the 5th gear/overtop switch on the transmission. If you didn't re-use your old one, you might want to swap them.

Well, if you have something unplugged, that's likely what it's for. However, leaving the 5th gear switch unplugged shouldn't make the light stay on at all times. It'll just come on in 5th gear. It's not really that it controls it like I said before, but it affects it.

When you finally get the cables on the starter right, and the thing won't turn over when in the Start positon, try this: get under the car with the transmission out of gear for sure.
With a screw drivers shank, bridge the gap b/t the small blade on the starter solenoid to the large cable on the starter solenoid. The starter should spin over when you do that. Proves more or less the solenoid is ok and starter itself is ok.
If that works, then for some reason the small trigger wire on the solenoid isn't getting batt pwr when the key is put to Start. So put a meter on that wire and see if it's getting pwr when the key is put to Start.
Your starting problem has nothing to do with the switches/wires on the transmission.....unless the small black/white trigger wire on the starter solenoid is connected to *another thing* than what it's supposed to be connected to.
