start up........crap!

anyway this isnt once of those my car wont start things......
when i am starting up my rex it has a hard time starting, it always starts thanks to my fuel pump cut off switch. when it finally fires up..it is misfiring like crazy, like full on misfiring. so..after about 10 secs, the runs normal. but it happens instantaniously. has anybody had this problem....whats your opinion all you rotary guru's?

thanks

Matt

replace them and see. it could b the wires causing it to misfire. if its also having a hard time starting, make sure its cranking fast enough.

Hanging a bunch of new parts on the car in hopes of fixing the problem eventually is a pretty shitty way to do things. Why dont you try and diagnose what the problem is before just going out and buying new parts? There are ways to test the ignitors, ..test the resistance of each of your plug wires to see if they are in spec, test to see if your injectors are leaking, do a compression check, etc...

it does seem to crank fast enough....i think its the misfire during start up that causes it to have hard starts.

Mine does the same thing, and I just looked at my ECU, and part of it was burnt.

You could try checking that before you spend $60 on all the other stuff. I also have a new fuel filter spark plugs...

The ECU is below the passenger side carpet, if you didn't know.

Peruvian Rx7 is probably on the right track.. I"d check with a fuel filter first. How long has it been since that's been changed? (that's a 5 dollar/10 minute job, especially with a fuel pump cut off switch)

I had the same prob last year. I did a tranny swap and repalced the fuel filter and a few various others. I still seemed to have the same problem. It was only after a bad flood though, so I assumed it was just misfiring due to pig-rich conditions after a flood episode.

Prior to replacing the fuel filter, however, there would be times that it felt like the car would misfire *TERRIBLE*. Like stomping on/off the gas would never get above 4krpm--almost sounding like its on one rotor, half firing. Holding it down would just choke/kill it.

Anyhow, we replaced the fuel filter like said above and that problem had since gone away. A few others came up, like a noticable surging aroun crusing 5k rpm. We figured it was the 6ports.

Then the tranny went out. Located 5spd driveline parts and am doing the swap. Decided to tune up the engine completely with exception to cracking it. Replaced all gaskets, hoses, and vac's. Removed nest, emisions, ect. The 6ports had been stuck closed for so long that the imprint/footprint of the port had been burnt into the aluminum.

Bought two used actuators and rigged em in. All I need now is a few weeks warm weather and another $600 and i'll be in the "highlife again"
