stability in the rain?

It was raining heavy yesterday, and I drove much slower than usual, but on a slow left turn from a stoplight the 7 still took a 270-degree turn. How do I keep my 7 stable in the rain?

Get an alighment. First though, jack the rear up and see if your lateral links are loose or bent.

FR cars are stable in the rain

but you need to understand basic car control

#0 possibly get new tires if yours are bald
#1 check all the mechanical stuff like these guys are telling you
#2 remember that off throttle oversteer is bad

i would suggest attending a auto-X or HPDE

^it says he spun the car, i think

just drive real slowly in shitty weather and do all of the above mentioned, and you will be fine

remember it's a light car, too, anything but dry weather will **** with the handling some

just use more caution, and you'll be fine

The worst problem I've had is fish tailing on take off in rain, then again, I'm N/A. Good Luck!

yeah, you may have some other mechanical dysfunctions. I have an 88 turbo and if i get any strange steering from rain, it is usually on take off, (slight fish-tailing) and as long as i drive conservatively, i can take left/right turns fine. You should definitely check alignment and balance, then get some good all season tires or rain tires...maybe get some auto-x tires, (some auto-x guys or more seasoned forum members can help you out). it shouldnt be doing that. also, dont gas it in the turn (obviously).

As long as your drive with caution in mind, the car shouldn't be going crazy as you say it does. I even often prefer to drive the rx rather then my jeep just because its much faster to stop in the rain then a big ol' suv. Though there are always the risks of other people killing ya in the rx, but i rather put my safety in my own hands.

practice in open parking lots next time it rains. not only is it fun, but i think it helps a lot. the best way to get better at driving it is by pushing it to the limits and learning the limits in a safe environment, thats true for wet or dry.

I've recently gone from an SA22C to an FC, and I'm amazed at how much traction it has in the wet. I'm not pushing it or anything, cause I don't want to bend the car, but in situations wher the SA would have been all over the place the FC just keeps pointing where I want it.

I'd just check out what the other guys have said, and go from there.

Wait until ya get a turbo, with bald tires in some moderate rain. Hydroplane = instant boost = more hydroplane. That was fun, so yeah get some tires that arn't bald and dont jam on the gas in the rain.

Oh sorry... SA22C = FB RX-7

I believe you guys had SAs, but they were only the series 1 cars, whereas in Aus, all our first gen RX7s were SA22C.

Yeah, I got a friend in NZ, she gets absolutely pissed when I call a 1st gen a FB. She is like "a what" and i always have to correct with "sa22c" or "1st gen" :p

Did the sa22c that you used to drive have an LSD? I think that makes somewhat of a difference in the rain, but i dont really know. All i know is that 2 of my 3 RX-7s have one, and the one that dosn't likes to hydroplane (its also the only one with bald tires but just asking for when i do get the replaced)

The FC is alot more stable than any other vehicle i've owned in the rain. A little traction loss in the rain when I gun it, but nothing major. Now snow... this car sucks so much *** in the snow that it ends up with a juicy turd in its mouth.

that's a cop out

i drive my FR in all weather, rain and snow and ice

just learn how to drive and you guys will be fine

in snow the only thing i fear is other drivers, especially overconfident awd people

I bet its the tires...my car will take any turn really and I drive fairly fast even in the rain...as long as I am light on the throttle in a turn it doesnt slide.

Yep. Had more power than my FC too! And good suspension, but still won't handle in the wet as well as the FC.

I'd guess it's probably the tyres too. It only takes a bit of wear and they'll slip. Especially as he mentioned it was raining heavily.

tires make a world of difference in the rain.

i had some Dunlops with low tread on the rears and it would hydroplane all over the place, since then i've switched to Potenza S-03 225/45R17 in the front and 235/45R17 in the rear and it has taken just about anything i have thrown at it in the rain. it is even pretty tough to break traction from a stop but you still have to be moderately careful in the rain though, the only time i expect it to slide is under heavy acceleration and that would not be good in the rain at higher speeds.

As a four time FC owner I can attest to the fact that these cars don't do well in conditions where traction is compromised wheter it be rain or snow.

The only tip I can give you is to drive conservatively in slick conditions. When the road is dry and tires are good, nothing can beat the FC's cornering ability. Its almost as much fun as driving a go Kart.

hmm...that's what I was suspecting, that the tires were the problem. They are rather old. Also, when it spun out, there wasn't any tire squealing or anything. It was eerily smooth, so I suspected hydroplaning. Are there specific tires that you recommend that would be good for driving both in the rain and without rain?
