your not using the stock heat sheilds? i think you'll regret that, especially once you start replacing leaky injector o-rings every month.

not to mention, its gonna really heat up your intake and cost you a good amount of power.

disregaurd if you are talking about some other shield

Turbo blanket kit for $35:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I had a heat shield on my turbo and hated it. It made it impossible to do much on that side of the engine without taking the engine out.

I would put something on there though or else the LIM will get pretty heat soaked. The build is looking good. Ready to drive it yet?

Josh

Hardly an ambulance chaser smart one..

You need the heatshields.. or atleast some sort of heat wrap or coating.. Mazda put them there for a reason...

It really does not matter to me much though... not my car...If you want your motor to run hot, engine bay temps high, electrical wiring and hoses to melt/dry out/crack and shortout... or worst and engine bay fire then dont run them...

Vanity over saftey = stupidity

wow not bad pricing at all. how come i usually see them for 100 and above?!

DAVE i would really look into getting a blanket at least, im gonna be getting one for my turbo. the temps from this turbos are high and lead to premature wear on items as electrical wires, vac items, and even intake temps. i wrapped my DP and will be getting a blanket espically if that 40 dollar one is a good one haha.

Please don't talk to me like I am a newb.. I have been working with and building turbo cars for over 10 years..

I understand all about heat, heat soaking, dry cracking items and melting.. the stock heat shield are old, brittle and shortly will start to rattle deteriorate and fall loose and wont cover the turbo properly to be worth the hassle and horrible look...

I plan to get a blanket or wrap and the link above is a GREAT price on a great item.. I think I may buy that this weekend. (thx for the link)

I have got more stuff done today, I will post pictures below.

thx for the bump on the clutch kit.. it will hold the power quite well and still be streetable.

Here are some pics from tonight

Got the injectors in and the fuel rails on.. I have 2 of the 3 fuel lines on.. and the wire harness ran and lots of plugs hooked up..

Tomorrow I need to put a new end on the wire for my coolant temp sensor (on back of rear iron)

tonight I plan to clean up the uim and if I have paint down stairs I will paint it up..

Hopefully I can get a new fuel filter come thursday.. install that and the fuel line to it and then put the uim on...

Hey man, Was simply looking out for you... not coming down on you or treating you like a newb.. ( whatever that means?)

I just looked at pics of your modified water feed line for your turbo.. 10 years of turbo car building should tell you that the rubber line will melt from the heat of the turbo...yet I am sure you already know this...

If you want a set of clean OEM S4 TII heatshields for FREE.. yes FREE pm me...

Anyway.. again its your car do what you like with it...

The coolant line is either going to be swapped out for a steel braided line or replaced with an oem steel line (now that I have the turbo clocked correctly) That rubber hose is only there for fitment...

If you are going to give me heat shields I may consider them as long as they can be bolted on with the turbo on the car and they are not going to rattle me insane...

I plan to still buy the blanket too...

I've got time to make decisions.

Dave, the engine looks beautiful.
The engine bay...not so much.

How come you didn't clean up the bay before reinstalling the motor?

In the midst of getting the engine together I forgot to clean the bay out and I had to put the engine in on the day givin to me by my friend since he is the one that had the picker...

so I hope to have the engine bay cleaned up by the weekend before I start to mount the intercooler..

Japan.. THX... I apologise for reading words on the computer and not taking into consideration how nice you have been to me in the past.

Id take him up on those heat sheilds. The blanket is a nice add on, but I'd put as much between my motor and the extreme heat of a turbo as I could. PS. the stock heat shield I had werent new, but they never rattled.

(talking from experience)

That motor sure looks good tho!!

Yeah I am getting the shields from him...

I am just use to "other car makes" the shields were horrible when it came to fitment and they always rattled.. I should have known that Mazda would do it right..

Nothing to eventful today...

I got my rear oil cooler line on, got the upper intake painted (got something special for you) when I get pics of that.

sprayed the engine bay down with brake clean... tomorrow I will clean it with engine degreaser then more brake clean and hopefully it will be decent..

I got to order up a few items but I should have the upper plenum on by Saturday (wont get much time tomorrow or friday to do any work on it)

Plan to get the intercooler on or close to on this weekend..

A bit closer I am !

Ok so the intercooler arrived today and WOW it is HUGE...

I got the bumper off tonight and noticed that I will be doing alot of cutting and hammering in the front to get this to fit...

Anyways onto the pics

The intercooler

The piping, couplers, clamps

the bumper had to come off

the intercooler next to the car

The intercooler in front of the opening.

the thickness of the intercooler (3" thick)

The dimensions are

31" long x 21" tall x 3" thick with 3" in and outs
