Spooled Up Racing's Turbo Swap Thread

So today I picked up my turbo engine... I got it for a great price however I will be taring it apart because well it is a piece of work..

This is what I do know of it..

SUPOSIDLY it is supse to be a BRAND NEW engine with no miles the guy I got it form (an aquaitnece of mine) said that it was all nice and clean before he put it in his car then it got nasty dirty between working on it and pulling it back out..

Anywho this is what I do know..

the engien was turned over and fired it idled for a minute but shot flames out the exhaust the entire time then it died... He found out he has a bad wire harness..

as far as the engine here is exactly all I know (have been told)

S5 T2 keg with s5 T2 internals
s4 T2 front cover (s4 T2 omp, S4 T2 alternator)
S4 T2 intake manifold (lim and uim)
S4 Turbo and S4 turbo manfiold
S4 T2 trans (no reverse)

I plan to completly pull the engine apart, label everything, and check for age, wear, etc. Replace the gaskets, o-rings anything else that may need replaced.

Street Port the engine

get a S5 twin Scroll turbo and header

powder coat the intake, and paint the housings etc.

Replace EVERYTHING wearable (water pump, double atl pulley, belts, slave cylinder, thermostat, gasket, check all sensors for ohm resistance etc)

Anywho the cost of everything u see is 500.00 So what do u think?

This is going in my S4 n/a coupe (I will keep the S4 intake setup so I can use the
S4 wire harness)

Hmmm.... sounds like a BRAND NEW frankensteined s4-s5 combo to me! But hey, for 500 bucks... if it works; why not!?!?! Good luck man!

This is dope. Looks like this " keg" has a bit of an identitiy crisis, mixed up with all those S4 component's. Is it predominantly S5?

When you purshased this motor, did it come with the throttle cable, alternator, and TMIC mounting bracket? Reason I ask is because I just got a TII motor as well and what I paid for didnt seem all that complete.

The guy I buy it from says one thing and delivers to me what appears to be a short block with some missing parts. Wack!

I did not get the TMIC he said he needed it and thats fine because I plan to use a FMIc

Anywho I am going to start pulling it apart this weekend.. I will contiue to post pictures along the way.

The guy I bought it from said that the entire engine was nice clean and shiny like the frt cover is.. I have no reason to doubt him since he has made no gaurentees to what it is and he even recomended I should pull it apart because he is not 100% sure..

It has been sitting in a big rig truck shop/machine shop for osme time so that would explain how it looks dirty and nasty and all..

I plan to have thei engine apart completly by the end of the weekend if possible

again stay tuned for more pics and info!

BTW would everyone agree that this looks like a S5 T2 engine with a S4 T2 front cover and intake/turbos..

also how can I tell if this is a twin scroll turbo or not?

Finally gonna live up to your forum name eh?

I dunno man, looks to me like someone passed a turd off onto you... Even if it was brand new, sitting on a shop floor for a while shouldn't make it accumulate that much filth. But, for the price its not bad if its a perfectly rebuildable core. If the plates are too worn, send them out to be lapped. Then port the **** outa that bitch and get to boosting!

ok can somone point to me where the twin scroll is? I guess I am confused on what I would be looking for? (since u say I have it)

also I did not get any shots of the left side of the engine I notice that now I will do so tonight a S5 T2 should have a knock sensor above each trailing plug right?

Right were the wastegate is, below it that big actuator controls the twin scroll. It has an arm that attaches to the manifold were inside is a flapper valve that blocks one of the exhaust passages off to boost quicker at mid to higher vacuum. The S5 had the knock sensor on the front rotor housing above the trailing plug i believe but cannot remember to well.

now see I heard that the idea is to use a S5 twin scroll as that was the more valuble turbo... correct me if I am wrong.. I thought S4 turbos never had the TS option (untill now)

Everyone i've had (S4) has had it. They have a banjo bolt that goes to a clear plastic line, (like an omp line), and goes to a green actuator that is controlled by the ecu.

the s4 had the twin scroll, the s5's did not. the s5 turbo is better.

ok so what is better between the S4 TS and the S5

I would figure the TS will give u better low end power unless the trim or size on the S5 is larger I dont see a gain
