what is a stat? i posted an answer for your acceleration problems on the other post...the header gasket leaking would have nothing to do with it..all that is going to do i make your car loud i drove around without a header hasket for a week, no problme just incredibly loud...

it takes two seconds to check the mass airflow flapper, all you do is take the air box off the mounts and then take box off the mass air flo sensor it is connected by four bolts (that are like 10 mm i think), and then just push the flap inside, to see if it is stiff or stuck. if it is spray some wd-40 on it to get it moving again.

Now your engine is going to be flooded becasue your ecu has been thinking that your engine has been getting a **** load of air when you really haven't. That is why you were running so rich, and why it would only pull after 3k or 4k rpm's.

like i said my friend had the exact same problem with his t2, we couldn't figure out the problem and had to tow the car home. we couldn't figure it out the problem so we took it to two mechanics and they couldn't figure it out. then by chance we looked at the mass airflow and the flapper was stuck wide open. It sounds really stupid i know, but that was the problem
