If i can find my S5 rail you can have it. Did you put a little locktite when you put it back on. I've known 3 FC go ablaze, and got to see one in person. That WILL ruin your day.

I saw the aftermath of one...

I was at the junkyard a week ago scooping a few nuts and bolts for my project and noticed a S4 where the entire top of the engine was nothing more the a blob of melted aluminum, that would be a major bummer!

I changed my PD/rail when the engine was out last, I didn't feel comfortable leaving it even know the engine only had 45,000 miles on it.

I think that I may drop back to the wreckers this weekend to get some more bits, they are pretty good there. I just showed up at the counter will a fuse box cover overflowing with bits and pieces, he rolled his eyes and said, 'gimme 2 bucks'. I've bought a bunch of bolts and things from the dealer and I can tell you that 2 bucks wouldn't buy one of the specialized bolts on our cars! Jeeze just a screw grommet for the inner fender well cover cost me $0.77 here!

My question about the PD was never answered. What does the screw do? Mine was loose when I rebuilt the engine, so I screwed it down some, but should I invest in a new one?

I think the screw controls the travel of the diaphragm ... NZ or Hailers or Icemark explained that once ... If you screw it too tight, you might end up tearing the diaphragm.

Word to the Wise as given to me last night by Kevin Landers;
Go buy a auto fire extingusher TODAY!
Y'all know of his 'ultra sweet' TII vert, one of the oil lines (I think he said) came loose or broke 2 months ago and caught fire. Vert would have burned to the ground, but he had a $10 walmart extingusher.
Don't let this happen to you...

Another thing besides this is DO NOT TRY AND PUT THE SCREW BACK IN. You won't be able to get it to its origional location and this could infact happen, what is mentioned above. In which case then your screw is in there, and looks OK but witha tear in the PD you're VERY likely to smell gas/ be unlucky enough to have it catch fire.

Please spend the money and replace the part from Mazda, it lasted this long, you won't have to worry about it again for quite a while.

Sounds like good advice.. They're sorta pricey, though.. I think I may just go with a banjo bolt for a little while, till I get my suspension/wheel bearings/etc fixed...

Once the screw goes its broken. Why not just replace the PD with a banjo bolt. I am thinking of just replacing the banjo bolt with a fitting that screws directly to the rail. Earls makes something that would fit.

Actually, that's a good idea. . I wonder if the hydrolics supply company could come up with a plug that is the right thread, so you could eliminate the banjo bolt all together, and just put a plug at the end... less restriction (not that it matters), and probably easier to find than a replacement banjo bolt

IF you're going the JY route, get one from a S5. IF not then PLEASE get a new one.

Yeah...it really sucks man. Glad I found it. I heard not having a PD can cause pluses in your fuel system that can lean your engine. Off to mazda.
