sitting seven!! what to do?

hello everyone.
im looking to buy a 91 rx7 thats been sitting in a garage for the last 5 to 6 years. the owner told me he stared it up recently and it worked just fine. what are some things i should look for before buying the vehielce???. ive read the articles on how to buy an rx7. but this ones been sitting since 2002. so how should i buy an rx7 thats been sitting for 6 years?

im going to replace the oil and coolant before i drive back home with the rx7. its a 500mile+ drive. is there anything else that should be done??

should i be concerned about the gas tank? i remember reading about that somewhere but i forgot what it had said. the car has 96000+miles

thanks for your help.

The brakes will NEED attention. brake fluid is corrosive and barke lines are rubber. Factor in sitting for six years and you have a disaster waiting to happen. check the lines, fluid and possibly bleed them if necessary. You will probably want to drain whatever gas is in there and put fresh gas in. Gas that has been sitting is like goo. Check all rubber hoses/lines. other than that, if all is running well, get home and do a FULL tune up. oh and plugs... they are cheap.

oh, be very weary if you get there and the car is already running/warmed up. Usually a sign of someone hiding something.

IMHO, driving a car that has been sitting that long is a disaster waiting to happen

^ i agree, its scary. It can be done, hopefully mostly highway. I have heard of a couple people ( not FC) that attempted to resurrect a car, olny to ignore the brakes and blow a line. Consequently the car went spinning out of control while trying to brake, you get the rest...

I would look at a combination of Aaron Cake's site.

Buying a non-turbo RX-7

Buying a turbo RX-7

Unstoring an RX-7 (from proper and improper storage)

i mean, what happens when the lines you didnt replace, blow out?
then your stuck in the middle of the road with oil/coolant all over the place. You dont know if the low level sensors are hooked up or working... you could loose all your oil then lock the motor before you even know there is a problem.
