single or dual???

after i get my headers a shop is going to make new 2.5 inch pipes all the way back. I was thinking though instead of spending the extra money to have him make a new Y-PIPE should I just go with a single??

You can do what you want but I don't like the single look...looks like something is missing because of the extra cut-out. Have you already bought the header?

i dont think theres anything wrong with having single sided pipe, i had one on my old car, it had pace setters also man, with a 2.5" pipe all the way back, sounded nice, but i was running solid pipe, no cats, no mufflers no silencers

i have single...less weight...cheaper...flows just as well probably even better than a dual due to no turbulance created in a y-pipe situation

I like the dual look, but as in life looks arn't everything. Besides, a dual kills your flames. And there's nothing like seeing fireworks at your 7k shift

it was very loud, below 3k RPM it sounded like 2 harleys drivin next to each other, but on the other side of 3k it was like a brigade of soldiers walking with weed whackers through a cement tunnel, very very very loud and high pitched

my input

Well the MAIN reason Mazda decided to go with duals on the second gen instead of the single the GSL-SE had is because you get more flow.

having TWO pipes coming from the cat gives you more room to flow more air out. And Duals just look better ( AS LONG as you dotn have HUGE mufflers that stick out of the bottom, MHO)

BUT like XLR8 said there is nothing like a fire breathing rotary for those pesky tailgaters

from what i understand, the Y pipe accually takes some power away, may not be enough to tell, but it does creat soem turbulence..... any one confirm this?

Well you have an NA & we went through this a while ago & came up with the fact that "true-dual" makes the most power on an NA. Now dual with a Y-pipe might not be any better or may be worse than a single to one side.

if you're worried about power, throw away the pacesetters before you even put them on... they're actually more restrictive than the factory manifold is. they do a shitty job of cutting the tubes for welding and you end up that the exhaust has to go through a 1.5-1.75" opening in the collector because they're so sloppy when they make the Y... you're gonna have to spend a good hour porting it out with a die grinder, plus lots of time fixing the header to engine bolt holes because when they made the flanges they put the holes "approximately" where they have to go, plus they make them too small. Hope the muffler shop doesn't charge you labor to do all that, because if they do then you'll end up spending more money than if you'd just got a RB header in the first place.

Trust me, I know, I tried to same money too and I ended up getting screwed...

Unless noise isn't an issue, the dual will be the best option. Because each muffler only has to deal with half the exhaust flow (and half the sound energy), you can either use quieter mufflers and flow the same for less noise, or use less restrictive mufflers and flow more at the same noise level. The Y creates a little restiction, but less than you'd think.

we all know that true duel makes the most power, but damn is it the loudest, i was saying that Y pipe to make duels out of a single pipe may take some power away than a single all the way back

That could be true, but I still can't go without a muffler one one side myself.
