single or dual

which is better for an 88 turbo rx7, single or dual exhaust? i was looking at either the racing beat turbo back exhaust, which is 3" down pipe out to 2 point something. and there is the corksport one which is single, but its 3" all the way back. which is better for performance? advantages and disadvantages?

thanks

eric

Perfomance wise, if they flow similarly they will perform similarly. The area of 2-2" pipes is roughly equal to that of 1-3" pipe. I don't care what anyone says about weight, the saved weight of one less muffler isn't enough to feel acceleration wise.

I'm a tightwad, and a single is simpler, cheaper.
On a turbo, the duals are for looks.

I've had both. No huge difference. The duals look nicer. Especially since the rear already has a notch for it. But like Bill, I'm a cheap ***. So the last TII had a single exhaust and just a piece of pipe for a tip...

The corksport is going to be about 4x louder so add on what...4dB? At any rate, keep in mind that the RB turboback has two mufflers compared to one fart can muffler for the Corksport. So, the Corksport mated to a 3" DP and presilencer is going to be LOUD. Then again you have a turbo, so it'll be a little quieter than it would be on an NA.

racing beat exhaust is made to fit there products only, it wont fit with any other aftermarket exhaust parts, unless u do some fab-ing.

What do you mean? Their DP/presilencer will hook up to any catback.

They make a couple different DP/presilencer combo's. One is to bolt up to the stock exhuast, the other is from their turboback system which will NOT bolt up to the stock exhuast components.

sorry for being not specific, 91madarx7 mentioned the 3" so i was talking about that, racing beats 3" is only made for their own stuff, cant really mix and match with it.

"This 3.15-inch (80mm) down pipe is a direct replacement for the down pipe in the Racing Beat Complete TURBO II Exhaust System. This down pipe is intended as a bolt-on component ONLY if used with the Complete Exhaust System components"
