Shifter Spring replacement
Hey guys,
I've looked everywhere I can think to, and can't seem to find a good write-up or diagram that would let me see how to replace the spring in the shifter. I've got a "new" trans about to go in my car, and am just going over it to make sure everything will be good once it's in there. The spring in it is broken, and I have a new one, but I have absolutely no idea how to replace it. I could easily clip the wires of it to get it out, but no clue how to get the new one in.
Any help is appreciated as always guys, thanks.

The bushing write-ups on mazdatrix aren't what I'm looking for, but i guess the little 1-5 steps described in that post are about as good as it gets. I'll take pics and write it up a bit better if I can/am successful.
Thanks again for setting me straight.

Thanks. Well this got me started, but I'm kind of hung up. Got frustrated and left to get dinner.
Anyways. The extension housing is completely unbolted from the trans (the "tension bolts" are all out) but will not come out. It seems as though the shifter rod is hung up on something and won't let the extension housing come apart from the rest of the trans.
As far as the driving the pin that holds the shifter base to the shifter rod, how do i go about this? Is there space for it to fall out on the other side? Do I just drive it through with a drift? Or do i need to pull it out with something?

As for the pin on the shifter rod base, yes just drive it through, find a position which gives you the most space on the other side so it doesn't get stuck. (I dont remember which position right now) Its not that hard. While you are at it make sure the rod base has the small white bushing on top where the lower shift lever will go in.

You just have to lift the extension housing a bit, there is one or 2 small pins between the bolts. Just lift it up and pull, you will see it.

...it doesn't have the small white bushing
I'll pull the one out of the bad trans and drop it in.

Went ok, but Now i can't shift into reverse with my corksport short shifter. It seems like the bottom of the rod is hitting the side of the "shifting block." Idk what the reason would be, it worked fine in my old s5 trans. 1-5 all shift great. Any guesses anyone? I got frustrated and tired and quit for the night, I'll try the stock shifter on it tomorrow.
