Shifter Bushing Redo Time!

ok well ive been looking on mazdatrix at their bushings and im not sure what i need to buy. The problem is i have a miata shifter in my car now and once again, im not sure what i need to buy. As of right now i have basically no bushings and shifting is clunky as all hell.

if someone could help me with a list of the bushings i could/need to use that would be great, or am i SOL with the mata shifter?

I redid my shifter bushings last year, but it was on the stock shifter. I'm not sure how the Miata shifter looks, but I would say that having the bottom shifter bushing made the biggest difference. This part was missing in mine.

I'm talking about this white one

Make sure you have a good inner boot as well, so it doesn't flop around so much.

My groove bushing was completely missing, so obviously I replaced that one.

I'm guessing that my upper and lower bushings were already good because it didn't make any difference when I replaced them, but it might be a good idea. I think the springs that go on them were bad though.

Definately see how much play you have at the bottom end of your shifter. It took me a few weeks to figure that one out, since most people talk about replacing only the upper and lower bushings.

See my thread if interested. Remember that it's the stock shifter and I'm not sure how different they are.

i know right now i dont have the bottom cup bushing and the stock fc one wont fit on the ball and the miata one i pulled out wont fit in the cup. i tried sanding it for a while (hand sanding a bushing = not fun and futile) but didnt work. im sure the other ones are the same as the shifters look exactly the same. its really the cup at the bottom im worried about.

are u talking about this:

the DIY miata shifter under archive recommended using some medium grit (80 grit) sand paper, and that's what i did. took about 5-10 minutes, but works. took me three tries, kept sanding and trying. basically you have to sand until the beveled end is all gone. aprox. 1mm

just installed a miata short shifter yesterday, took about 45 to an hour to complete. the top and bottom bushings (white and blue) are the same size. just the one miata short shifter came with didn't have the little pin groove (wasn't necessary), but i don't see how it would hurt.

hope this helps...sorry if i misunderstood.

well that does help slightly, but i dont have an actual miata short shifter, i have an actual shifter out of a miata. everything i search for is for the miata short shifter and thats not what i have. ill try the 80 grit for a while and see how it goes so i can get at least one bushing in there. but im still not sure which bushings will be compatable with this shifter.

oh okay...i think the "pivot ball" size is the same for the stock and short shifter, i don't see why miata regular shifter would have a different size. the regular bushings should work...i say just buy em and try it out. if not, u can always sell em to someone on the forums, cuz those things go out notoriously.

good luck.
