Hey guys replaced my shifter boot and i have a few broken inserts for the shifter surround. Anyone have a good fix for this?
the bottom two are completely gone now.
its not an issue but when i shift to 1,3,5 it lifts up from the bottom. Not a deal breaker but is annoying.
I have thought about a possible remedy for this problem, since the shifter boot surround in my 1990 Convertible has one broken insert. This part is not a problem now, but if I have to remove the surround at some point in the future, and end up breaking another insert, then an alternative repair will be required. I would suggest that you use a fine bead of an adhesive silicone sealant to "glue" the surround back in place, and leave it alone for a day to cure. Use a fine bead so that you can use a fine razor blade to carefully cut through the bead if you need to remove the surround in the future. I was contemplating the use of black RTV, since it somewhat matches the black surround, and cures to have matte finish in the case that some squeezed out when the surround was put back into place. A clear silicone, however, may be a better bet.
