Short shifter boot from stock shifter boot?

I am looking to get a stock shifter boot from someone and I was wondering if there was a way to modify it to fit on a short shifter.

At the moment there is nothing on it and my hand keeps sliding across the plastic and its starting to hurt.

The boot is no longer on there but that is what I was dealing with before.

Thats how I bought the car so I have no idea what he did to it but it works. The only problem is he filed down the shifter threads so now the **** I got on it right now is free spinning (It doesnt make it hard to drive just doesnt look flashy).

Id rather not have to buy a new shifter if able.

also that shift **** on top was hammered on... literally when I drove it it came off numerous times on the test drive.
