Scraper Rings?
Scraper Rings?
Hey all,
I just had a question. i had heard that rotary engines had issues with the scraper rings and that they should be replaced 40,000 miles.... is this true? or is this just some bad info? any info or advice is appreciated, thanks.

Judging from the fact that there are no such thing as "scraper rings", Id say its bad info
Maybe what someone was reffering to was the apex seals (which do "scrape" against the housing, but are not rings..) But then again nothing should have to be replaced every 40k miles, barring some major engine failure. Many of us have our cars well over the 100k mark with no problems. My Turbo2 had over 140k miles on its original engine, and still ran fairly well, even after hitting fuel cut because of raised boost numerous times.

OK the kid is young and most likly dosen't know the rite words, and my spelling sucks at times but then you you two know any thing you would just know what he was talken about and would under stand my spellen.
He is talken about the metal oil control rings on the sides of the rotors and there is a factory spec for the amount a of wair. A good rule is any thing more then hafe way worn across the face it's throw away time.
The life of these seal is almost forever as long as one has kept up on oil changes and good air filters. What is the problem is the oring in side the seal. Starting at 10 years and or 120 k mi they get hard and no longer seal. I also beleve that leaded fuel and alcohoe don't do them any good
