Safc setup help

Hey guys, just last night I finished soldering all the connections from my safc to the ecu wiring. I should probobly mention this is the first digital safc .. its not the newest one its the previous. When I go into the Third option ECT and I try to setup the Flap Sensor, # of cylinders and all that.. how do I get it to save that information ? I didnt even try to start the car up or anything not knowing what would happen if the safc is not setup yet...

the SAFC should save the setup by itself.
And if you dont touch the AFC, it wont do anything to the car

The safc should have the setup by itself ? what do you mean ?

btw I bought it used, does it store settings on its own ? It was previously used in a wrx

Scroll down almost to the bottom where it says SETTINGS in yellow http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/safc.htm

when I turn the key to the on position and the safc turns on, when I go to change the number of cylinders the default is always six.. when I put it to four then go back out of the screeen to the main menu and turn it off the next time ill turn it on it will be back to six.. so basicly its not saving the information.. is that correct ?

Initialize restores the factory defaults of the SAFC, do not use this otherwise you'll lose all the settings you put in.

The car is parked not insured so its not going anywhere.. So the safc saves information when you turn it off? btw going to the Initialize screen it seems to just freeze and not do anything I cant select yes or no. No is highlighted but I can go back into the previous menu or anything... is this normal ?

No thats not normal, you should be able to select yes or no, or at least go back to the previous screen. Try putting the settings in again and just dont go to initialize, after putting them in check all of them again to see if they are correct. Turn the key to off, wait a sec, turn it to acc again and check the safc. If they didn't save im pretty sure ur safc is screwed up somehow. You can always check the power wire again to make sure its connected properly, along with all the rest of ur connections, but I dont know what else to do other than that.

I wonder how it stores information.... since it only has one power wire that isnt constant... or I dont think its constant is it ?

One of the wire needs to be hooked up to the 12v constant and it's funny to read about you asking about the initialize function. When I first got my AVC-R, I pressed it every single time I turned my car on and wondered why it didn't save the settings.

But yeah, it saves your settings if you installed it correctly. Go over the wiring diagram one more time and your connection points.

it doesn't need power to save. it'll save even if you unplug the battery.

either you are doing something wrong or the unit is screwed.
