S5 Turbocharger: oil and water lines

Will RTV seal good where the lines connect to each other/onto the turbo, for both oil and water?

Or will a gasket be necessary? When I removed the lines the gaskets were destroyed.

I did a quick search, but didn't turn up the results I was after.

Thanks,
James

I've used RTV when I swaped my turbo out and it's holding up. It's been about 6 months on a hybrid turbo and no leaks anywhere. Pretty sure it's fine to use RTV.

Thank you for the very fast response. I will give it a shot.

Glad to hear it's working out for you.

Use new gaskets with a skim coat of RTV on each side. The gaskets are about $2 a piece and it's a such a pain to access if the RTV were to fail...

Alright. The only place I had to use RTV was where the "s" shaped hard line off the front of the block met with the braided one going into the turbo. If it fails, I should notice it right away, and it shouldn't be too hard to get to.

Thanks,
James

Yes but if im correct there are 4 gaskets, 2 for the oil lines and 2 for the water lines, correct? If so mazdatrix is only showing one for oil, and one for water, or are the 2 oil the same and 2 water the same?

Call Ray Crow at Malloy Mazda. Say you're from the forum, he'll probably give you a discount.

The mazda dealer never (around here anyway) charges for shipping a part to the dealership for you to pickup. It's usually there overnight anyway.

Don't use cork material, it will swell up and fall apart. Go for the thicker paper like material.

haha. thats funny. i wish that were the case here. my gay-*** mazda dealer charges a ton more than mazdatrix. plus, my mazda dealer takes twice as long to get stuff shipped in for me. mazdatrix is awesome for us out in the boonies.

Someparts are cheaper. You just need to be a miser and compare both. I know for a fact however that gaskets are cheaper through the local dealership here.
