S5 OMP removal - (searchable thread)

After 2 weeks of researching OMP removal for my s5, I only found one (somewhat) useful thread on the "other" forum.
I decided to just do it this weekend, so I could safely run synthetics.

So my solution to prevent ECU limp mode was to leave the OMP harness connectors connected and just tie the pump out of the way.
That should hold until I get my haltech.

Also, I used the "2 dimes" method to keep the shaft from moving.

Anybody have better ideas for these 2 topics that they'd like to share?

P.S. I wanted to create this thread to have all the logical terms that would make it show up in a search (ie s5 doesn't work cause search terms have to be 3 chars long, so lets put the word series5 in this thread.)
other terms to help search:
MOP
blockoff
premix

i have heard alot of people just keeping the omp on there but plugging the holes where the oil metering lines would go with bolts. not sure on the size though

Stacher, do you have a S5 or S4, because I am interested in what you did with your OMP to prevent the computer from going into limp-in mode. I am leaning toward a nifty little thing that plugs into the line that is a resistor that matches the resitance of the OMP and will prevent this problem.

i just took the whole OMP unit off of the block, left it plugged in and tied it down and it works great.

i found that if you seperate the two parts (position sensor and pump) the ECU will go into limpmode anyways (i guess this is where to do the dime stuff to keep the shaft from moving?)

wouldn't that burn up the pump?
It seems that the pump would get over worked cause it's trying to pump oil into blockoff bolts.

Just a hunch.

I may try that if you're pretty sure it works....
mine is just bolted to the shock tower right now, with a blockoff plate in it's original position.

buy the k2rd blockoff plate and leave the pump plugged in elsewhere in the engine bay.

Man, that plate would be nice (my custom one leaks just a little) but I don't know where to buy it

Interesting. I got my blockoff plates from k2rd about a week before they lost their website. I figured they'd just been hacked... but I guess not. Odd.

reTED said he believes, that k2rd went part time due to some other important problems...

I'd like to know what kevin does with s5's when preparing for premix.... he's a clever fellow.

Yes it is an S5

Well, I really don't know. It has been hooked up since April and no problems yet,

I'll make sure to report that to the various web archives...

Who wouldn't pimp a pickup truck?

I think I read somewhere that you could disassemble the pump so it wasn't so bulky....

Either way, this is just a temporary fix until I get my haltech.

Anyone use the "2 dimes" method per reTED's site, or no?

are you looking for the size of bolts? because they are 10x1.25 and either 18 or 20 mm long. the ones that go in the housings will have to either be cut off and grinded down or find some short *** bolts (i coudnt find any shorter) good luck.

I've seen more than a few people do it this way, seems like it works, I've never heard of anyone having problems doing it like that.

i have to make my own or have one machined out of aluminum at the local machine shop. if there are interested people i may be able to get a couple done and you pay me for them and ill sent them to you. they wouldnt be much. i can get 12x12 sheet of 1/8 inch aluminun for 18$. plus milling costs. not sure on those. but will see.

I think if you're planning on blocking the EOMP you should wait for the haltech
that way it'll just be a non-functioning unit
no problems with removing it then

Yeah, but I want to start synthetics (other than royal purple) and I'm already premixing for long term benefits, so I wanted to get rid of the OMP ASAP

I was thinking... The electric OMP determines how much oil to inject by throttle position right? Would it be possible to probe the OMP harness on a working S5 electric pump to see what the voltage is at the connectors. According to the following diagram the electric omp gets its signal of how much oil to pump from the throttle position sensor. If you wired the appropriate wires to the corresponding wires on the throttle position sensor you could by-pass the pump without having it connected.
