s5 omp operation questions

When does the omp kick on in a s5?
should it operate at idle, spitting oil on my engine with the lines loose?

The amount is very small its not going to splooge all over atleast I don't beleive it should because the amount that gets used by the stock MOP is less than a drop per apex seal.

PS- premix pwnz joo

It never shuts off unless the engine is off.

but of course remember it IS variable with engine speed. both systems essentially work the same way, but i would suspect the S5 one is more accurate. another thing i am wondering about is if the oil output is in direct proportion (y=x), or if it is an inverse or logarithmic/exponential output (y=1/x, y=x^2. y=logx). i'm sure it isn't precise, but Mazda engineers probably developed some type of basic proportioning...

It has only 4 levels of output.
It's not totally variable.

yes, i shouldn't have made it sound as if the MOP has a constantly variable output. what i meant was that there are predetermined points (4 as you mentioned), and i was just wondering if you were to graph them, what the relationship would look like...trivial, i know...

but this is one of the reasons some don't like using straight premix, because you may have too much of an oil-gas ratio at one point, and then too little. i'm not 100% sure what the nature of injector output is, but i believe it is fairly linear, which leads me to think that the MOP output is not...

Scroll to the bottom of the .PDF file.
There is a comparison of the mechanical OMP versus electronic OMP oil delivery numbers.
