S5 Jspec Engine Question?????????

Guys I have heard that the Jspec T2's had speed governors on them at 115mph....I hope this is not true b/c I will be highly pissed b/c sometimes I like to go a little faster than that. My modded N/A put down 183rwhp and in 4th gear at 7500rpm I was doing 140mph. I really hope that this Jspec Speed Governor thing is just a myth......

The ECU has the limiter... not the engine.

This is pretty basic automotive tech...

i figured it was Jspec only because my near stock T2 broke that rule this morning.

as for the Jspec limiter, wouldn't an Rtek chip be able to defeat this programming?

Even J-spec Mk4 Supras have 115-MPH (180, which is the top of the stock speedo on basically EVERY Japanese car) speed limiters.

But you can take them off. The highest the speedlimit EVER is in Japan is 80 kph (obscenely slow), or there abouts.

Apparently a guy I know was going 260 kph in his Supra (350~ HP) a while ago... which is 160 MPH if you do the conversion... hehehe.

Naturally, he doesn't have a speed cut any more.

No, it is simple shut off from the speed signal in the guages.

If by chance you had a Jspec ECU and Jspec gauge cluster, then you would just remove the speed screw from the back of the Jspec cluster.

Without the signal input from the gauge cluster (Which again is only found on the Jspec gauge clusters) to the Jspec ECU, there would be no shut off.

180 KPH, not 115 MPH

ahh i see, so nothing he should worry about anyways unless he happens to have a RHD Jspec chassis to go with his conversion.

Oh ok and i just remembered that since we did a S5 T2 Swap into my 88 GXL...we used an A-spec S4 T2 ECU we had here and a S4 T2 Wiring harness. SO I guess I dont have any worries... sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only way you you would enable the 180km/h speed limiter is if you used the J-spec ECU and the J-spec instrument cluster and you ran the appropriate wire inbetween the two. Since none of you should have any of those three things you don't have to worry about it.
