Question S4 TII -> UIM Removal...any tricks?

I'm trying to remove the Upper Intake Manifold on my Series 4 TII motor. I took off the four UIM bolts, and it still don't budge. Are there any bolts I'm missing? Any tricks? (i.e. take off TB first) Any info will help...checked service manual...no help. Thanks guys...

Um what are you doing it for?
Im just concerned because if you dont know what your doing bad things could happen
(vac leaks, bad idle, etc) I just was in the same boat before and I dont want bad things to happen to your car...

there are 4 NUTS on the UIM holding it down along with a 4-5" bolt doing straight down through the top of the UIM. I think thats the one you are missing. Along with those there are 3 vacuum hoses on the front of the UIM which have to come off along with 4 hoses on the rear (by the firewall)
There is also a nut holding the far side(drivers side) of the UIM to the Intercooler bracket which has to be loosened.
I think thats it but I feel like im forgetting something big....

If you want the UIM ALL the way off it would help if you removed the throttle cables, bac valve and the "dreaded 90degree coolant hose"

There's also one at the center and at the throttle body. The one that WILL be a bitch and a half will be the coolant hose under the throttle body. That hose is a few inches long and goes from block up to the throttle body. After you take that off, I highly suggest you get a couple 90degree bend coolant hose and re-route it if you want the accelerated warm up. Or, just block it off. There's also a few vacuum hoses on the back as well. After you take it off, make sure you cover up the intake so you don't drop anything in there like some people did.
If it's the first time taking it off, it might be really stuck. At the rear of the UIM, there's an "ear" to pry it up.

Labelling everything, and making damn sure the gaskets are sealed up nice & tight on reinstall, those are the "tricks"...

Well I know what I'm doing, but I've never fomr this on a TII. My engine is out of the car at the moment, so the coolant hoses won't be a problem. I am trying to route the new harness through the engine and in the process remove and block off the EGR. Thanks alot for the help guys...

The 90 degree hose is the bane of TII owner's existance. Spend 2mins trying to take it off. If you can't get it in that time, cut it off. That hose has eaten hours of my life. I finally blocked it off and I it wasn't a problem starting in the cold.

If you did the mod, you probably don't have the dreaded coolant hose.
There's a coolant hose that goes from block to the throttle body. If you try to remove the UIM and it's stuck, that's it. You can only reach it from behind (firewall side). It is a bitch to remove and even more to put it back on. A 90 degree hose will route the hose from the block towards the back and back into the throttle that will be a simple clamp removal to remove the UIM. Some like the accelerated warm up, some don't. I don't. I don't want a cold engine revving at 3000 rpm .
If you have the throttle body mod, you can block it off completely. I routed mine using a 90 degree hose from block to the BAC.

WannaSeeMyWankel: It's easy to do of course when the engine is out, but if and when the time comes for you to remove the UIM, you'll wish you re-routed the hose. I'm sure EVERYONE who has removed it cursed at it. @@&^%!!@ ...&^$@!....FUC_!! B_TCH!! <---- that's me before the routing.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's fought with that little guy. Getting it off is no problem, but reinstallation of the clamp is where it gets tricky. I'm going to put a longer hose on it next time.
