S4 to S5 swap question

i had read that when swapping an S5 TII engine into an S4 TII chassis, you need to change the front cover. why?

1. Because you can't use the series four wiring and ECU to run the electrical OMP on the series five engine.

2. Because the series five ECU and EM harness will not mate with the series four Front harness.

3. You can use the series five engine in the series four car using the existing series four ECU, IF you remove the front cover off the series five engine and put the series four front cover on. The reason this works is because now you will have the mechanical OMP just like you did on the series four. BUT you will then need to swap throttle bodies from series four to series five engine BECAUSE the series five throttle body has no provision for the OMP actuating rod on it. Big deal, four nuts to remove the throttle body.

4. The series five engine can be installed with the series five ECU but a lot of wire swapping has to be done b/t the series five EM harness and the series four Front harness. This can only be done by people who can (I was going to add to that sentence, but those words really cover it pretty good.

5. Or you could remove all the series four harness in the car and install series five harness. This makes little sense to me. Not to others.

6. My suggestion is to use ALL the original series four harness plus series four ECU, and install the series five engine with the series four front cover plus using the series four throttle body on the engine. That sounds easiest to me. Not others though.

7. You won't believe this, but there is a Search feature on this site in the upper right hand corner of this page PLUS an ARCHEIVE of what some call good threads. In both those places you can find information on how to swap. Personally I don't agree with many of them and I'm sure a bunch don't agree with me.

8. To sum it up, the two things that make this swap tedious, is that the ECU wiring of the series four and five are not compatible. And the wiring in the EM harness of the series four and five are incompatible. Plus the series five has a electrical OMP that can not be operated by a series four ECU.

9. You NEED to understand that the EM harness MATES with the FRONT harness and the pinouts of the EM of the series five is soooooo different than the series four EM harness it'll make your head spin (I only get dizzy).

Use all the S4 stuff like manifolds, turbo, wiring etc with the S5 short block and block off the OMP and premix

Or you could run premix and a megasquirt.

If you go that route your going to have to premix. And you will need the oil line that goes from the Front cover to the turbo from an S5 because the S4 one is too short.
