S4 automatic vs S5 automatic

Is there any difference in these two tranmissions?

Does anything else have to be swapped over with it other than the tranmission itself? Will I need to include the S4 puter with the tranny to make it work in an S5?

To add-on, I have an S4 auto for sale and the guy wants it to replace his S5 auto that is shot. So....

Need some help here gurus!

Nobody cares. Every real car has a manual. If you're gonna swap, put a real tranny in it.

go for the 5spd dude. thats what im doing to my s5. the auto tranny is crap anyway. i mean its good for a sports car, but it still robs power, is prone to slipping, and can be erratic in its shifting (at least mine is, but its at 111k). i dont trust it.

the s5 would most likely be the stronger slushbox (haha) because the engine has more power. Thats what i'm thinkin?

YEah I think the internals are the same but the electronics are a bit different, you need to get both side by side and swap the sensors/wiring.

Thank you to the last couple responses. Yes, I am trying to sell the tranny and the guy wasn't sure if it would work and neither was I.

Just so you guys know, I have a 5-sp in my RX already. I bought it right the first time and didn't screw around with the auto.

i would love to do a 5 speed conv. but its all i can afford right now and the vert is my daily driver and the auto in it is all fucked up and not shifting correctly, leaking and one time didn't want to go into reverse. like i said i need a tranny and its all i can afford at the moment.

also : dose anyone know if the torque convertors r the same?

AFAIK the guts of all of them are the same, just the electronioc controls/sensors are different. The torques look the same.

BTW< you can do a cheapo 5sp conversion for under $400; try to fix your AT for that much.

I have the series 5 auto transmission controller. Not sure what it is really called but I was told it is the brain for the transmission? Could be wrong because this is second hand info. it is not the engine ECU which is underneath passenger feet but it does wire into the engine ecu. It came from passenger kickpanel mounted on the wall of fender. Let me know if you need it.

It's hard to get a clutch replaced for $400, much less swapping the whole tranny.. maybe he's talking just parts costs..

1. do i need to switch the shifter (don't know what else to call it ) it's on the other side of the tranny with a big wire coming outta it with a 4 prong plug in on it.

not very many people know jack about the auto trannies, just how to get rid of them.

i think the 400$ is parts because not too many of the guys on here let anyone do the work for them, it easy to swap a tranny if you hav a hoist available.... much easier on an FB though

this is a warning for all you who r cursed with an auto rex (including me) the s4 tranny will not work, fit, or match up to an s5 tranny. i tried to do the swap to day and gave up half way nothing was matching up. and now i am stuck with an s4 auto tranny with an s5 vert.
life sucks............ nothing i can do now but start saving up for an s-speed swap, if anyone has and s5 that the r parting out give me a pm

Details....

What exactly was different? Certinaly the bell housing match's up. Torque converter should work. Correct counter weight is already there.

Confused.
